No kidding! The first few error messages I got testing bmpx were very cryptic. Playing some mp3s using the gstreamer cli tools showed that I was missing some plugins.
Anyways 0.14.3 is in the repos. It sports a message about dbus, links to the proper neon lib, gamin instead of fam, and depends on enough plugins to enjoy basic audio. Thanks Bjorn M. for the helpful comments.
