Re: Computer freezes after upgrade to 4.2.3-1 [Solved]

Same problem with Linux 4.2.3-1, my computer is a netbook, dell, but this came in, but the desk was covered by a black screen as 90% of the screen. I made a downgrade and ready, that linux have problems.

I have recently installed arch and had this random freezes problems, I can't find a specific trigger for that, have to say that I installed arch in the same machine around a month ago a worked so good, now I have reinstalled it, and have this problems with no apparent reason, upgraded the kernel with pacman -Syuu to 4.2.5-1 but remains the same.

I'm using a laptop with the same CPU (Lenovo s20-30) which I bought about 6 weeks ago and froze randomly when I used Arch,  both when using the standard kernel and the LTS kernel. It didn't happen when I used Ubuntu.

About a week ago I found this on the Arch wiki, and it seems to have fixed the freezes on my computer -- no freezes since then:

(search for "baytrail" to find the relavant paragraph)

Re: Computer freezes after upgrade to 4.2.3-1 [Solved]

I now also had a freeze while running Linux LTS (4.1.12-1), so this really doesn't seem to be the problem (at least for me). I'm now trying Gnome's Classic mode, maybe that will help? (I also now completely re-installed my system on a different drive – something I had planned to do anyways for some time –, but since everything besides the physical drive should have more or less stayed the same, I doubt that will make a difference.)

I'm using a Sapphire Radeon HD6870 video card so I guess the Intel Graphics bug also doesn't apply to me. But thanks a lot for posting (will surely help some others)!

Well, I'm very sorry to report that after a full week without any freezes, my computer just froze again. That kernel parameter I linked to in my last post seems to improve things, but it turns out not to be a perfect solution.
I'll keep watching this thread...

I had the same issue with my dad's laptop, it's also got a Baytrail Intel Atom (can't remember the exact model). It used to work reliably earlier this year, but started freezing randomly later this year. Like you, I tried the options mentioned in that wiki, one of which actually worked for me. If I set the following, then I no longer get any freezes:

Option "NoAccel" "True"

Surprisingly, desktop compositing still works (Plasma), but I could no longer use video acceleration (vdpau).

Thanks Si. I'll try that.
