Re: any news on xorg 7.1?

Xorg 7.1 will include AIGLX, so it's not as hard to get as XGL.

I hope to start a development repository with Xorg 7.1RC soon, this one will contain xorg-server, mesa 6.5 and an updated set of drivers. Nvidia/ATI users beware: your non-free drivers won't work with Xorg 7.1.

About mesa 6.5: recently I switched the xf86-video-ati driver in testing to use Mesa 6.5, which works fine for me. I plan to do this with quite some other drivers too, as Mesa 6.5 contains some important fixes (6.4.2 was completely useless in windowed mode on ATI cards)

That would be great. I'll be your happy tester smile

Re: any news on xorg 7.1?

What will happen for nVidia and ATI driver users? Will X.org just look at what the drivers support and decide whether or not to load the extension accordingly, or is this going to be more fun and games with xorg.conf? I guess probably the latter, right? X.org doesn't seem too good when it comes to autodetection.

I've started an aiglx thread here http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?p=158415. Hopefully we can get this thing working smile

Drivers are versioned, the driver API is incompatible between 1.0 and 1.1, so 1.0 drivers won't load at all, as the version doesn't match. Since there's no way to get hold of 1.1 drivers from ATI or Nvidia for now, users who need non-free drivers can't use Xorg 7.1 and AIGLX. XGL is supported for these people, as that runs as an OpenGL application on top of Xorg 7.0.
