Re: Latest Xgl and Compiz PKGBUILDs

I fixed that with gconftool. I don't know 100% what command I used, but it came close to this:

gconftool-2 --install-schema-file /usr/etc/gconf/schemas/compiz.schemas

One of the main causes of the fall of the Roman Empire was that, lacking zero,
they had no way to indicate successful termination of their C programs.

Are you sure? Did the command have gconftool give output? I remember that it did for me.

Re: Latest Xgl and Compiz PKGBUILDs

I recently updated compiz. Now I have a question,

Compiz fades to black windows that are not currently focused, this is weird but I don't know which plugin this does. I tried disabling fade plugin but it didn't make a difference... Anyone happens to know how to change this behaviour?

I believe this happens after you use the alt-tab or "exposé" f12 key. (But I don't know of a fix for it.)

Re: Latest Xgl and Compiz PKGBUILDs

I wanted to give this a try but it seems that xgl-cvs isn't in Shadowhands repository?

When I try to compile from source I get:
checking for XSERVERCFLAGS... configure: error: Package requirements (randrprot o renderproto fixesproto >= 4.0 damageproto xcmiscproto xextproto xproto xtrans  xf86miscproto xf86vidmodeproto xf86bigfontproto scrnsaverproto >= 1.1 bigreqsp roto resourceproto fontsproto inputproto xf86dgaproto videoproto compositeproto  >= 0.3 trapproto recordproto resourceproto xineramaproto evieproto xkbfile xfo nt xau fontenc xdmcp) were not met:

Requested 'fixesproto >= 4.0' but version of FixesProto is 3.0.2

Consider adjusting the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable if you
installed software in a non-standard prefix.

Alternatively, you may set the environment variables XSERVERCFLAGS_CFLAGS
and XSERVERCFLAGS_LIBS to avoid the need to call pkg-config.
See the pkg-config man page for more details.

==> ERROR: Build Failed.  Aborting...
[root@lapzilla xgl-cvs]# pacman -Ss fixesproto
current/fixesproto 3.0.2-2
    X11 Fixes extension wire protocol

The Wiki page doesn't help here -- what do I need to do?

Thx

I know both features, but the curious thing is that it fades windows even when you're not alt-tab'ing or F12'ing. I'll try a clean setup or a compiz update soon and see if it goes away.

Cheers

This is the Trail Focus plugin. IT annoyed the hell out of me as well. Just kill it and all will be right with the world.

Re: Latest Xgl and Compiz PKGBUILDs

!!! UPDATE !!!
You can checkout my latest release from my Bazaar-NG repository or download it here:
xgl-abs-overlay-20060506-1.tar.gz

cairo-cvs was replaced by cairo-devel, so you must run pacman -Rd cairo-cvs before installing cairo-devel.

There were huge upstream changes in compiz-quinn-cvs. There are new plugins and new amazing effects. Try it out!

Changelog:

· Added latest libwnck patches (from David Reveman) to libwnck-compiz
· Added fixesproto-4.0 (there is only older version 3.0.2 in Arch Linux)
· Removed scrnsaverproto-1.1.0 (it is not needed anymore, it has been updated in Arch Linux)
· cairo-cvs replaced with cairo-devel (it is now compiled without PDF support, because in other way it fails to build)
· Added --disable-aiglx option to xgl-cvs PKGBUILD
· Removed compiz-intel-copy-pixel-issue-workaround-1.diff patch from compiz-quinn-cvs, it has failed to apply (but it still works for compiz-cvs)

Re: Latest Xgl and Compiz PKGBUILDs

it says glproto-cvs conflicts with glproto.  How do I get around this, since I can't remove glproto because mesa depends on it?

Thanks.

Re: Latest Xgl and Compiz PKGBUILDs

You can remove glproto without considering dependencies, using `pacman -Rd glproto`.

Re: Latest Xgl and Compiz PKGBUILDs

The compiz package has the /etc in /usr, a no no. What I'd suggest is to set sysconfdir to /opt/gnome/etc.

And you'll need to create a .install to handle the schema:

schemas=(
  'opt/gnome/etc/gconf/schemas/compiz.schemas'
)

post_install() {
  for schema in "${schemas[@]}" ; do
    GCONF_CONFIG_SOURCE=`opt/gnome/bin/gconftool-2 --get-default-source` opt/gnome/bin/gconftool-2 --makefile-install-rule "$schema" > /dev/null 2>&1
  done
  kill -s HUP `pidof /opt/gnome/bin/gconfd-2` > /dev/null 2>&1
  echo "updating scrollkeeper catalogue ..."
  scrollkeeper-update -p /var/lib/scrollkeeper > /dev/null 2>&1
  update-desktop-database > /dev/null 2>&1
}

post_upgrade() {
  post_install $1
}

pre_remove() {
  for schema in "${schemas[@]}" ; do
    GCONF_CONFIG_SOURCE=`opt/gnome/bin/gconftool-2 --get-default-source` opt/gnome/bin/gconftool-2 --makefile-uninstall-rule "$schema" > /dev/null 2>&1
  done
  echo "updating scrollkeeper catalogue ..."
  kill -s HUP `pidof /opt/gnome/bin/gconfd-2` > /dev/null 2>&1
  scrollkeeper-update -p /var/lib/scrollkeeper > /dev/null 2>&1
  update-desktop-database > /dev/null 2>&1
}

post_remove() {
  echo "updating scrollkeeper catalogue ..."
  scrollkeeper-update -p /var/lib/scrollkeeper > /dev/null 2>&1
  update-desktop-database > /dev/null 2>&1
}

op=$1
shift

$op $*

Re: Latest Xgl and Compiz PKGBUILDs

Anyone know why the plugins section of compiz in gconf-editor only shows the fade plugin?  I tried restoring the compiz schemas from /usr/etc/gconf/schemas/compiz.schemas but it still only shows the fade plugin.

Some of the plugins seem to work though, like scale, wobbly, fade, switcher, cube etc.  But they don't appear in gconf-editor so I can't edit any options.

Also, I don't get any shadows around my windows...   sad

EDIT:  I am using the latest xgl-cvs and compiz-quinn-cvs packages from shadowhand, which I think he built from mikos's latest xgl abs overlay.

Re: Latest Xgl and Compiz PKGBUILDs

I seem to be getting this error when running 'pacman -Syu'

:: Retrieving packages from shadowhand...

Targets: fixesproto-4.0-1  etc....

checking package integrity...
error: archive fixesproto-4.0-1.pkg.tar.gz is corrupted

I have tried this a couple of times with the same result?

and the output seems to say it put those schemas into gconf's database.  But still nothing.

Output from gcontool-2: http://pastebin.com/704423

Maybe something is wrong with my gconf db?
