Just thought to share my experience.

The only current issues that bother me are concerned with the audio and USB-C port. First, the audio does not seems to configure the headphone channels properly and I end up with background volume being overly loud and foreground very faint. So if I watch video, I hear the music and certain effects, but speech is very faint and seems like it comes from afar. There is no static, so I guess at least the driver does at least something well.

Nothing to do with the kernel, channels mixing done by pulseaudio usually, check your audio settings, laptop/headphones have only 2 channels, wrong mapping from 5.1 or 7.1 may cause that effect.

Re: Dell XPS 13 9350 Late 2015

Alright guys, new BIOS seems to be out http://www.dell.com/support/home/uk/en/ … op/drivers Let's try it out.

Edit : Make sure you go to the Dell UK website, for some reason it's not yet on the US one.

Edit 2 : Not a huge success so far. Audio had to be re-enabled in the BIOS, my rc3 boots only sometimes and power consumption hasn't changed. Let's see if activating ASPM works. Some Windows user now reports around 1.7W instead of 4-5W here http://forum.notebookreview.com/threads … t-10154134

Edit 3 : No success with activating ASPM and/or using the nvme-cli tool to activate power management. The problem probably has to do with the following error messages at boot

[    0.235086] ACPI Exception: AE_NOT_FOUND, While evaluating Sleep State [\_S1_] (20150930/hwxface-580)

Interesting, that other user who was using only Windows without dual booting was reporting quite lower discharge rates. Could it be that changing from RAID to AHCI is responsible for this?

Re: Dell XPS 13 9350 Late 2015

I'm having the same error as @vilavil, my screen flickers and also having ATA errors. However, now tlp correctly identifies the controller and sets the power savings. Power has come down for me from 6.5-7W to 4.8W - 5.8W. But it feels more unstable. I guess it's to the kernel devs now...

I had a bad bios flash.  Not sure why.  It did say flash successful at the end of the flash.  Now I have a corrupted screen so it looks like I'll be returning my laptop for warranty/rma.  Sorry guys, no more updates from my end.

My dmesg looks exactly the except I have more ATA errors than you. My /boot partition does not behave apparently.

The good news is - my headphones work perfectly now.

I will recompile the kernel and see what happens.

Re: Dell XPS 13 9350 Late 2015

I can't downgrade.  My screen is corrupted.  I cannot see what is happening.  Anyways, just sending it to Dell, should be back before Christmas *fingers crossed*

What I can try to do, if someone is willing to help, is to blind flash.
On boot, press f12
Select bios flash update
Take a photo of screen after selecting bios flash update.

Re: Dell XPS 13 9350 Late 2015

Does anyone have the following issue?

Direct firmware load for brcm/brcmfmac4350-pcie.txt failed with error -2

I am running linux mainline with linux-firmware-git and although now the wifi is working I get a few different issues and this is the one I'm trying to solve for now? Any suggestions?

I've downgraded BIOS, dell_wmi had an issue for me, looks like bad update from dell, a lot of issues in DSDT.

Don't worry, i had such an issue and i found that this error is caused by "file not found", and it is because module loading tries to find the newest lib

Re: Dell XPS 13 9350 Late 2015

So I should just leave it as it is then? Because I am getting the following message which I thought was related:

brcmf_c_preinit_dcmds: Firmware version = wl0: Oct 22 2015 version 7.35.180.119 (r594535) FWID

This pops up when I  boot before the login prompt and hands there until I press enter.

this looks ok, it tells what firmware version is loaded ... actually im going to revert the bios to 1.0.5 because of all errors that i have and will wait for new one ...

Re: Dell XPS 13 9350 Late 2015

Guys, I removed all the kernel parameters with only the modules nvme and i915 left. Power consumption is unchanged on 4.4-rc4. Maybe we don't need them any more. Please test yourself and share your findings.

One problem remaining for me is - coil whine. It started with the latest BIOS, I think, since I did not remember it bothering me. I tried scaling the CPU to see if it's from that - no. Then tried turning off wifi/bluetooth - no change in any combination. Tried adjusting the tlp power management for SATA - still nothing. Tried changing the PCIe power policy - still nothing. I have no idea where it's coming from. Anyone else having that issue?

Re: Dell XPS 13 9350 Late 2015

i caught why are so many errors like this one:

[drm:intel_dp_link_training_channel_equalization [i915]] *ERROR* 5.4 Gbps link rate without HBR2/TPS3 support

when screen is blank and comes back dmesg get filled with this error so maybe one more issue with the bios or acpi .. i don't know

another issue is when i come back to 1.0.5 battery status get messed up, take a look @ POWER_SUPPLY_STATUS:

cat /sys/class/power_supply/BAT0/uevent
POWER_SUPPLY_NAME=BAT0
POWER_SUPPLY_STATUS=Unknown
POWER_SUPPLY_PRESENT=1

Re: Dell XPS 13 9350 Late 2015

Pretty much same errors in my side after bios updating. ACPI errors, ata exceptions and randomly dell_wmi warnings... It affects both 4.2.5-1 and 4.4-rc3 kernels.
No change concerning battery life.

Beside this, everthing looks working...

I've also noticed no power consumption changes after removing i915 kernel parameters in 4.4-rc3 kernel.

Concerning coil whine, it seems to affect several users and this has been reported in previous xps 13 models too.
It's seems that it can only be solved by returning to dell.

Thank you so much for the help.  The corrupted screen appears to be from the video source and not the monitor.  The same corruption is seen on a usb-c -> hdmi.  I tried to recover the bios but could not extract the header and rom from the .exe within windows environment.  Dell removed those flags recently.  Our xps also does not start bios recovery from holding down (right)end key.  Well, the box from dell is here so I think I've tried every avenue to recover the bios.

*sad face

Re: Dell XPS 13 9350 Late 2015

Hey guys!

Just goy my shinny XPS 13, do I update the BIOS? It ships with v1.0.0 as you might expect.
I'll install Fedora (I guess I'll have to build a custom kernel) and see how it works

Thanks for your help, this thread is gold to me!
