Finally done with downgrading. What a pain!
Everything is working without crashing now.
How will we know when we can update again?

This message gives more info:
https://devtalk.nvidia.com/default/topi … 2/#4770032
You'll be able to upgrade to r361 when it is released.

And it's fixed:
https://devtalk.nvidia.com/default/topi … -16-beta-/
Still in beta, will hit Archlinux when PKGBUILD will be redone with the change made to libGL.so.

Thank goodness, this problem has been driving me nuts

This "fix" has been reported as causing problems with KDE/Plasma and its applications. So once again, I'm stuck not updating.
At this point I've gotten so frustrated with this mess that I've downgraded to the 340xx drivers in the repositories so I can get the rest of the updates and just accept any problems this causes with certain games until nvidia can get off their butts and release a driver that they've actually tested. This is pathetic.

The new nvidia driver is in testing repos, it will probably hit the extra repo in a few days. Steam has not crashed a single time for me since I started using the new driver.

The 361.16 drivers do not resolve the Steam 756 segfaults I've been experiencing - regardless of the STEAM_RUNTIME environment variable.

I upgraded to the nvidia-beta drivers from AUR, which are 361.16, and my steam has not crashed once since then.

Found my issue. Needed to do what the wiki describes when audio doesn't work.

Any idea when the nvidia package will come out of testing? I was hopeful of it being soon, but then I saw that linux 4.4 was added to testing, with the nvidia testing package being dependent on that ![]()
