Re: [SOLVED] VirtualBox modules don't load after upgrade to kernel 4.4.3-1

Working normal for me after update of virtualbox-host-modules to version 5.0.14-4.

I think this thread can be marked as solved.

Re: [SOLVED] VirtualBox modules don't load after upgrade to kernel 4.4.3-1

This problem is again after VirtualBox update to 5.0.14-4

Loading modules: modprobe: FATAL: Module vboxnetadp not found in directory /lib/modules/4.4.3-1-ARCH
modprobe: FATAL: Module vboxnetflt not found in directory /lib/modules/4.4.3-1-ARCH
modprobe: FATAL: Module vboxpci not found in directory /lib/modules/4.4.3-1-ARCH
modprobe: FATAL: Module vboxdrv not found in directory /lib/modules/4.4.3-1-ARCH

@edit: Reinstalled virtualbox-host-modules and everything is ok.

Re: [SOLVED] VirtualBox modules don't load after upgrade to kernel 4.4.3-1

I just want to add to this: I ran into the issue this morning and I did not have linux-headers installed for the new modules to compile against and pacman seemed to fail to mention this dependency and completed the update with success even though the actual build of the modules failed silently.

So don't be stupid like me: make sure you have linux-headers installed.

Re: [SOLVED] VirtualBox modules don't load after upgrade to kernel 4.4.3-1

I've been running into this issue the past week and I just wanted to point out a couple of things:

  • There doesn't seem to be any distinction in this thread between virtual hosts and guests.  Both hosts and guests are having issues, and I'm not sure if the problems or the solutions are the same whether your Arch is a virtual host or guest.

  • My Arch is a virtual machine host/hypervisor, and bloodline_'s solution is the only one that seemed to work for me. I solved my issue by installing linux-headers (which triggers a rebuild of the modules) as suggested and rebooting (I suppose manually loading the module would work too, but I had just patched some other software, too).
