Did the 340xx match the kernel you have installed? I ran into issues as well, but this was related to me having refrained from updating for a few days, hoping this issue would be solved quickly. A recompile of the driver using abs got it to work, but then I realised I made the classis error of doing sort of a half update.

In the meantime, I stick to nvidia-340xx drivers. No need to block anything in the pacman.conf.
Same problem, and same solution. Just installed the nvidia-340xx drivers and it worked after a reboot.

I know 'me too' is seldumly a helpful thing, but I had a 460GTX in my media box and was also bitten by this issue. I've since swapped it out for a 680 and the issue went away...
So it does look like this is really a 460 issue...

I have the same problem with GTX460. Tested with new 370.28-1 nvidia drivers released on 2016-09-08 and the problem is not fixed. Now I'm using nvidia-367.35-3 from https://archive.archlinux.org/ which are working with kernel 4.7.x. IgnorePkg set to "nvidia nvidia-libgl nvidia-settings nvidia-utils" so they don't update. Someone should fill a bug report for nvidia drivers because this issue was not fixed with new nvidia drivers.

Got the same problem....

As America rushes off to work....a little GTX460 owner waits.
As we check our watches to see if ti's time for lunch....a little GTX460 owner waits.
As we gripe about the cost of prescriptions....a little GTX460 owner waits.
...and as we think, "the bug report is too big - what can I do?"....a little GTX460 owner like this, waits. And hopes....

Same here, except that any kernel later than 4.7.1 refuses to load the nvidia module - so I'm stuck with outdated nvidia and outdated kernel now. :-|

It's nice to know nvidia is working on this issue. Nvidia Forum

Upgraded to the latest version (nvidia 370.28) hoping it had been fixed already. Not yet! Back to figuring out the long list of packages I need to downgrade to get a functional system...
Edit: Surprisingly, I didn't have to downgrade xorg this time (seems like I did last time). I only needed to downgrade nvidia, nvidia-utils, linux, and linux-headers. Hopefully that's enough to hold together until Nvidia can actually fix the bug.
and yes, I too have a GTX 460.

Nvidia released new 375.10-1 drivers which fixes this issue. You can install it by enabling testing repository in pacman.conf or manually download from Arch Packages and update.

By now 375.10 is also in the non-testing repo. Thread can finally be marked as resolved.

Can confirm resolved. Running kernel 4.8.6-2-ck and nvidia-ck 375.10 with a GTX460 - working fine
