Nope. Dad does not wants it. So I'm stuck with cable.

I can only use wireless on my desktop due to a problem with the internal wiring in my house!
This makes doing a fresh install very difficult if wireless software is not included in the distro (hint hint).
I use windows rt2500 driver with ndiswrapper. I can't get the linux rt2500 drivers to work... they install ok but lock up the PC as soon as I try to start network on them
try the rt2500 (yes, rt2500, not rt2x00) drivers in [unstable]. they're a CVS version with SMP support. So long as you dont try network scanning with iwlist scan, they work well.

I do not use wireless. I just drilled a hole in my floor the other day to run some cables down to the basement so I could take the router and server out of my computer room. As of yet, i'm too skeered (read as lack of knowledge) to use wireless...but will probably do my studying up on it in the future and let the wife tote around a laptop w/it.

I got a 15 or 20 meter (don't remember) wire running from my room to the router...

ipw2100 && wrt54gl here.
I prefer cable over wireless, but when I want to use my laptop outside my room, it's wireless taking over .

rt2570 legacy driver from CVS running on SMP. Wee. I have to apply a hack in my rc.sysinit to get network to run in my daemons array though.
stat_busy "Running rt2570 Hack"
ifconfig rausb0 up >/dev/null
iwlist rausb0 scan >/dev/null
ifconfig rausb0 down &>/dev/null
stat_done
No matter what I've tried, I have to run iwlist to get the rt2570 from CVS to work. Otherwise network will always fail. I've tried adding every possible bit of information to the wireless config in conf.d but it doesn't fix anything.

Runs fine on my older Prism-II card with the in-kernel drivers.

make an rc.d script by taking an existing one, esd is pretty simple, and then chuck those commands in there and put it in your rc.conf. Then you wont lose it when initscripts updates.
If you'd like, ill add such a script when I create the rt2570 package for the repos.

The reason I didn't do that is it isn't really a daemon and doesn't need the start/stop functionality. It won't be overwritten either, because as I understand, initscripts defaults to not overwriting these days. It just makes a bunch of pacnew files.
Plus I have a patch on my hard drive, so if initscipts destroys my hack, I can just repatch it.
