Well it does max 24 MB/s on windows, could it possibly be an hardware problem?
EDIT: I also have another usb 3.0 that my friend gave me to give him a file, and the results are identical.

xhci should already be loaded.
Did you check the bcdUSB value?
Since the windows speed is better but still far from reasonable there might be some issue on the USB HW bus.
BIOS/UEFI settings (restricting this to somewhat USB 1.1) or other devices.
As of "Other devices": there're those two "Intel Corp" devices where the product IDs aren't in databases (8001/8007) and google suggests they're part of a wifi/bluetooth combo (dongle?)
=> If you can get rid of them (unplug/disable in BIOS/UEFI in case it's an internal chip just wired on USB) that might be worth a shot ...
Online
The bcdUSB value only shows the type of port in which the drive is inserted, which is 3.00, of course.

The Lexar drive is mine, while the Kingston one is my friend's, these two behave exactly the same way.
As for those two unidentified intel devices, I really don't know what those are, but I'm sure I don't have a dongle, I have a wireless card and no bluetooth.
I'll try to find something in the BIOS (msi click bios 4 btw)
EDIT: I believe It may have something to do with one of these options:

I don't want to mess with things I don't know, so I'll wait your response.

I have tried disabling xhci handoff, and then ehci handoff, but it changes nothing.
Offline
The key is probably in the "legacy usb support" setting - whatever that actually means (*sigh*)
The general process is that the USB is started in ohci mode, then either risen to ehci/xhci or control is passed to the OS.
What *could* happen is that (because of the legacy support?) the hand-off is not successful and the bus remains in ohci mode (usb 1.1 - poor speed - and some windows driver apparently gets it into ehci at least).
=> So what you would try is to disable the legacy support but keep the hand-offs enabled.
The "legacy mode" is usually™ just a fallaback setting for (broken) older devices and early storage access (ie. if you want to boot from usb, that *might* fail w/o legacy mode)

It's still slow.

Last resort:
Are you using the lqc kernel in an attempt to deal with this or for other reasons?
Did you try the "linux" or "linux-lts" kernels?
What's the output of "sysctl vm.dirty_background_ratio" and "sysctl vm.dirty_ratio"?
Online
I have used the lqx kernel because of the improvements it should provide over the vanilla kernel, but it seems that it doesn't change anything in the vanilla kernel, I'll try later with the lts one.
sysctl vm.dirty_background_ratio :
vm.dirty_background_ratio = 10
sysctl vm.dirty_ratio :
vm.dirty_ratio = 20
These are with the vanilla kernel, but I think the values were different with lqx... I'll post it later.
EDIT: These are the modules dkms installs when building the kernel's initramfs (in this case i had forgot to install the headers for the lts kernel, and installed it later.)
(1/2) Install DKMS modules
==> dkms install broadcom-wl/6.30.223.271 -k 4.9.22-1-lts
==> dkms install vboxhost/5.1.18_OSE -k 4.9.22-1-lts
==> dkms install vmware-modules/308.0 -k 4.9.22-1-lts
==> dkms install anbox-modules-ashmem/20170412.120bd07 -k 4.9.22-1-lts
==> dkms install anbox-modules-binder/20170412.120bd07 -k 4.9.22-1-lts
==> dkms install vhba/20161009 -k 4.9.22-1-lts
I would exclude the anbox modules because i installed them the day befoe yesterday.
EDIT2: With the lts kernel there is a little difference: the speed is 1.2 MB/s, while with lqx and vanilla it would start at 500-550 KB/s and slowly rise to 1.2 MB/s. I will now try to remove all dkms modules and see if it makes any difference.
EDIT3: Removing modules didn't change anything.
Also, the values for the lqx kernel:
sysctl vm.dirty_background_ratio :
vm.dirty_background_ratio = 20
sysctl vm.dirty_ratio :
vm.dirty_ratio = 50

The values are high for 16GB of RAM, see https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/sy … ual_memory
(and surprisingly even higher on the lxq kernel)
But they're not insane and since you only reach very good USB 2.0 performance on windows for the USB 3.0 key (but not expectable 3.0 performance), there'll be some HW/BIOS related issue left anyway (or windows lacks xhci support - which windows in particular?)
Did you try dd performance on the usb 3.0 key?
If that's surprisingly good: "lsmod"
Online
also posted the following command:
#zcat /proc/config.gz | grep XHCI_HCD
and
lsmod | grep xhci_hcd

The key is probably in the "legacy usb support" setting - whatever that actually means (*sigh*)
The general process is that the USB is started in ohci mode, then either risen to ehci/xhci or control is passed to the OS.
What *could* happen is that (because of the legacy support?) the hand-off is not successful and the bus remains in ohci mode (usb 1.1 - poor speed - and some windows driver apparently gets it into ehci at least).=> So what you would try is to disable the legacy support but keep the hand-offs enabled.
The "legacy mode" is usually™ just a fallaback setting for (broken) older devices and early storage access (ie. if you want to boot from usb, that *might* fail w/o legacy mode)
In at least some UEFI, the option merely determines whether you can perform a legacy boot (in addition to UEFI boot) on USB drives...

I have windows 10, so I think that the usb 3.0 driver should be included.
I don't know what settings could there be in the BIOS that prevent windows and linux from using full usb 3.0 performance.
Offline
iow, dd matches windows performance, "cp" is slow - let's momentarily say it's a cheap USB 3.0 key which simply can't go > 25 MB/s
Why is cryptd loaded? aesni_intel is in use, so is this an encrypted installation?
Online
No, this installation isn't encrypted.
And yes, the speed is that low probably because it's cheap, my stick is this one: https://www.amazon.it/gp/product/B012PK … UTF8&psc=1
Offline
So, do I have to accept that on linux i can't use maximum speed?
Offline
You can try to tweak the iommu kernel parameters and also to not use utf8 as codepage (what is not default and even warned to be a bad idea) - also mounting "sync" will make it globally slower for sure - but I'm pretty much out of ideas what could be the problem (notably since direct access to the device is fast)
Online
How can i avoid using utf8, and what mount option should i use instead of sync, which also can tell me exactly the progress of the copying?
Offline
Don't pass a charset to the mount options (or use iso8859-1, but generally just don't pass any), instead you likely want to pass an "utf8" option
"exactly the progress of the copying"
If it's just about measuring, time cp and sync (also sync access shouldn't slow down things *that* much, so you can likely keep it sync for this matter)
In general, your major issue is likely the incredible slowness of writing, the HUGE difference between reading the data and writing it - rather use "flush" if you're still unhappy.
Sync NAND access is not only prone to slow things down but also a way to kill the device early (for unnecessary and small writes)
Online
I need to be able to do this using a file manager, without the shell.
Isn't it possible?
Offline
Do what? Mount? What "file manager" mounts fat with an utf8 iocharset???
I thought you would have added that (along the sync option) to the options of <whatever tool you use for mounting> or fstab.
Online
I'm using usbmount to force it to use the sync option, but all the other mount options are provided by dolphin, afaik.
Offline
If usbmount covers it, dolphin doesn't provide anything.
Have you ever tested this on a clean environment? No plasma/gnome (i see baloo and zeitgeist indexing stuff while you write it) and no auto/mount helpers w/ nondefault options?
Just log into a linux console, ensure no kde/gnome/whatever session, turn root ("sudo su", in doubt)
mkdir /mnt/test
mount /dev/sdb1 /mnt/test
date +%s # time since EPOCH
sync # ensure all previous stuff is written
cp /some/file /mnt/test
time sync # measure the time to sync filesystems, testing w/ a FS mounted sync is futile anyway
date +%s # new time since EPOCH - gets you the seconds it took doing the above
unmount /mnt/test
rm -d /mnt/test

I think i kinda solved it. I did what you suggested in a tty without a session open, and it copied a 2 gb file pretty fast, but I still don't know how much time it took since it was using flush all the time.
Now i decided to disable baloo in plasma and it is going great, but I still don't know the real current speed of the write, nor how much time it will take it to finish.
I have encountered this also at school with a standard ubuntu system, so i presume it was mounted with flush.
Is there any way to have the real write speed?
Offline
Mount it sync for a test (w/o baloo) - the impact of a sync mount should be no way *that* drastic.
I do not endorse sync mounts as a regular setup, but well, it's your choice on your preferences ;-)
You might ultimately resolve this by configuring baloo to ignore removable devices/fat mounts (seems weird it doesn't anyway) and, in case you can assign this to the presence of baloo, file a bug upstream.
