Okay I deleted all the other timers and targets I'd made and just set it up as berbae suggested.
Now it seems to work! I set the timer to trigger every 1 minutes just to check that it doesn't reset to "n/a" again, and now it looks like it's persistent.

Thanks a ton for the help mates, I will keep an eye on this to see if any issues arise once I let this run for a bit, but for now I'm marking this as solved
