Firefox: is PulseAudio still required?

Several months ago, I noticed that audio output in Firefox stopped working.  This was apparently due to PulseAudio recently becoming a depency of Firefox.  My understanding is that the "pulseaudio" package now must been installed in order to hear any sound in Firefox.

However, after reinstalling Arch on my system, I just noticed that audio is working again under Firefox.  I was surprised as I hadn't installed the "pulseaudio" package.  I double-checked, and I can confirm that "pulseaudio" isn't installed on my system.

I am happy to report that I have sound again in Firefox, but I am confused why it started working again.  Can anyone explain this?

Re: Firefox: is PulseAudio still required?

ALSA support was reenabled with the FF 56 release, as detailed in https://git.archlinux.org/svntogit/pack … b419abbde4

Apparently Mozilla decided to delay the removal of the ALSA backend.
