If you take the current "linux-ryzen-amd-staging-drm-next-git" kernel (which is 4.16 atm btw), the kdf error "kfd not supported on this ASIC" goes away, which hints to me this kernel also contains rocm patches
I don't think that this kernel has all of the relevant bits yet. I tried to open /dev/kfd with it, but it still fails.
Some patches have already been posted on the amd-gfx mailing list in prevision of the 4.17 merge window, but even then, there's apparently still specific work that needs to be done for Vega cards. It's possible that out-of-the-box support won't come until 4.18.
