Re: [xf86-video-intel] flip_done timed out

If you want to solve your screen tearing issue in XFCE without relying upon the broken intel xorg driver, just disable the built in xfce compositor and run something like compton as part of your session startup.  That should resolve your issue with screen tearing and allow you to use the more reputable kms driver.

I've already tried several different compositors (with and without vsync) to no avail.

For now I just keep using the intel driver, as this is the only one providing a complete tear free image for me.
Sometimes I get the flip done error. I've noticed that the errors it returns (and the behaviour) is different in every version of the driver/kernel. Some versions seem to produce the error more frequently than others.

Re: [xf86-video-intel] flip_done timed out

I found that issues ('flip_done timed out', 'ata1.00: qc timeout') appears only in UEFI mode with CSM support. I have to have CSM enabled because of Windows 7. If CSM is set off Linux boots faster and with no errors. Thinkpad X230.

Re: [xf86-video-intel] flip_done timed out

The laptop in which I experience this problem doesn't offer a UEFI. I think this problem is specifically related with the driver and its behaviour with Sandy Bridge processors.

Anyway, I have noticed that recent updates to this driver have greatly mitigated the issue. I can't say that it is fully fixed, but now it's only a very mild (sporadic) annoyance.

"flip_done timed out" sounds like an error message in AAVE, glad to see the devs working to be so inclusive.
