You would need an updated nvidia-304xx-lts package to be compatible with the current linux-lts if it was a dkms package it should then update as needed when linux-lts updates until linux-lts switches to a new kernel next year.
For all the 4.15 kernels you would need an updated nvidia-304xx and see if the patch I posted works again you would need to rebuild on kernel upgrade or use dkms.
If you remove nvidia-304xx-ck-kx and nvidia-304xx-utils then see if the nouveau driver works satisfactorily. If you really need 304xx packages I can supply an updated pkgbuild nvidia-304xx which you can try with linux 4.15.

It's kind of funny that it has been totally removed from the repos, but I guess as the kernels change, it won't do any good.
But there isn't a nvidia-304xx-lts either.

Right I would provide you with a PKGBUILD for nvidia-304xx-lts or nvidia-304xx which you would build and install locally the same as using AUR. nvidia-304xx utils you should already have.
But I am suggesting you remove nvidia-304xx-ck-kx and nvidia-304xx-utils then reboot and see if the nouveau driver works satisfactorily. If that works you could avoid building anything.

Remove nvidia-304xx-ck-kx and nvidia-304xx-utils then try the upgrade again.
Edit:
If it still fails check for any other nvidia packages still installed and post the new output of pacman.
Nvidia-304xx-ck-kx is 304.137-11 and Nvidia304xx-utils is 304.137-1, probably not significant as far as version differences.

nvidia-304xx-ck-kx 304.137-11 depends on linux-ck-kx>=4.14 <4.15 nvidia-304xx-utils=304.137 libgl required by: nothing
That prevents the 4.15 update for linux-ck-kxx and nvidia-utils provides an override for libgl that will prevent the mesa libgl which nouveau uses from working.
Edit:
corrected posting the wrong pacman -Qi output

I'm sure I won't be the only having some problems now with their nvidia-304xx, regardless of kernel. So it might be a good idea to go ahead and put that out there for aur.
I was thinking I might be able to get higher performance on FreeBSD, but I would need to build the nvidia-304xx package from the ports collection. But Mint is doing nicely for the moment driving a tuner dead TV, so I'll have to wait until nobody's watching TV on the ATSC tuner board in the computer.

I was just thinking about that.
It seems like nouveau would rather drop to modesetting, and was more favorable to nvidia-304.

You need modesetting for the X modesetting driver and 3d hardware acceleration using mesa libgl under X.
nvidia drivers do not need modesetting to use nvidia libgl to provide 3d hardware acceleration under X.
Without your current installation you nouveau is blacklisted by nvidia-304xx-ck-kx.
nvidia-304xx-utils route libgl to nvidia libgl. the nvidia driver fails to load as it version mismatches the kernel.
So X is left with only vesa. If a DE or WM wants 3d hardware acceleration it will fail trying to use nvidia libgl without the nvidia kernel or X driver available.
Edit:
Hopefully you will understand after this issue is resolved I will not be supporting linux-ck any more.

I finally took out nvidia-xxxxx and it used nouveau. So at least that works.
But when I want the 1080i mode, it goes blank on me, and can't see what's going on. This is the same problem I was having on Mint, until I installed the nvidia-304 from it.
So if I want 1080i to run the TV, I'll have to use the proprietary nvidia driver, which is just easier to work with on Mint since it hasn't been removed (yet).

Not sure what this is doing in here, it is a support thread. Moving to NC...

When you removed nvidia-304xx-ck-kx did you remove nvidia-304xx-utils as well? Is the blank display for console output as well as X?
If you want to pursue the issue what is the dmesg and Xorg.log when nouveau is in use with the blank screen issue?
Offline
Removed both, it was in X for sure, and I think console was ok. But I didn't look at Xorg.0.log or dmesg.
