You've only one scanout buffer which is used concurrently - the driver is responsible to keep that stuff apart.
What caused the update where you stroke the compton remark? Does it cause problems as well?

Yeah, compton also cause similar probs (jittery screen, but no corruptions when swicthing). Compton is way more reliable than the XFCE compositor. Xcompmgr works great.

Weirdly, ATM I cannot reproduce the compton effect now. Maybe I got confused somehow and inadvertently enabled the XFCE compositor during my testing.

Rebooted PC. Bam! Corruption returns. Also suffered another hard lock-up while trying to switch screens. I don't think it's compositor related.

For now, I'll forego screen switching, it's just too much of a hassle. sad
