Re: [SOLVED] lightdm does not start - only black screen

ping will query nsswitch.conf and then first try /etc/hosts, hosts doesn't and dig reveals that the dns server (hop) in your router doesn't resolve localhost.

We're kinda back to where the lightdm greeters cannot access the x11 server for some unknown reason.
Maybe try xdm? https://www.archlinux.org/packages/comm … archlinux/ proves that it does not *have* to be ugly ;-)

Re: [SOLVED] lightdm does not start - only black screen

Okay, nice to know. Ah I forgot to mention that after the modification of hosts, the black screen had changed to a black screen with two additional lines:

[ ok ] Started Authorization Manager
[ ok ] Started Accounts Service

I'm thinking about to deleted xorg completely and reinstall it again. But I'll try xdm-archlinux first. Thank you very much for your help until this point.

Re: [SOLVED] lightdm does not start - only black screen

Okay I have with xdm-archlinux the same problem as I had with lxdm. The login screen is appearing but I can't login. It throws me everytime after I entered username and password instant back to the loginsceen. Also my physical right handside display is the left one in the login environment and lefthand side is the right one. So it seems to be a problem with x11..

Here are some logs

That's not the same problem, xdm uses xinit and

Haven't forgot this and changed it back. Still the login screen problem. I really don't have a clue why the dm's not working

Re: [SOLVED] lightdm does not start - only black screen

Solved it. After a lot frustration I reinstalled the whole system. This time I tried lightdm directly, which worked instant, but after creating some xorg-conf.d files I discovered something interesting. Disabling mouse acceleration like Arch wiki suggests, caused the black screen problem. I deleted the lines

	Option "AccelerationProfile" "-1"
	Option "AccelerationScheme" "none"

and now it works fine. Thank you all for your help
