Umm... xorg-server 1.1.4 doesn't exist. You can't get it anywhere, barring time travel.

Oh... That's 1.1.1, revision 4... Right, because you're using the PKGBUILDs. D'oh.

...has pierre installed aiglx?
Offline
Yes I did and I got compiz running. But there are some problemes with transparency. And I fear my notebook is not fast enough for this; even if it is a lot faster than xgl.
Offline
ah..what's your video card?i have an i915....but..have you installed cgwd..and how do you start compiz?
Offline
I have a i855 and a Celeron with 1300MHz.
Offline
mmm..is the direct rendering active?
Offline
yes it is. I think I should wait until this stuff is more stable.
Offline
eheh it's very stable for me..but do you start compiz using this "compiz --indirect-rendering --strict-binding --replace gconf" ?
Offline
yes i did. But I think a i915 is a quite better chip than my old i855 ;-)
Offline
ehhehe...i know..but my chip..isn't good too

Whats the difference between aiglx and XGL? is it supposed to be better than xgl for some reason? been using glx and it works just fine for me.
The ultimate Archlinux release name: "I am your father"

Wikipedia covers the differences quite well.
In a nutshell (I'm over-generalizing here), XGL works with all graphics drivers but is sort of a hack. AIGLX only works with free drivers that have builtin support or on drivers where the vendor decides to add support but is the more technically correct solution from a software engineering standpoint.
There are also some phiosophical issues.
Eventually, I think the goal is for both to be virtually interchangable and share a similar API so that is good. I personally prefer the AIGLX approach.
