Advice for fitting nvidia card driver wise

OK guys so my question is relatively simple but I just wanted to check from people who may have a much better idea what I should do based on this move.

I currently run my Intel based system using mesa graphics drivers but will be fitting (hopefully) a new nvidia card into my system tomorrow. My question is should I pre-emptively install nvidia compatible drivers prior to fitting it or will mesa initially hold me over after fitting for me to sort it out that way?

Cheers in advance!

You can install the nvidia drivers in advance. In any event, though, you don't need X for this.

Yes you can fit the graphics card in advance. The nouveau  driver will drive it automatically at first but then when you install, or if you install the nvidia driver, you should blacklist the nouveau driver. They can exist together but that's complication.
