Acer 3025WLMi works here fine. The temperature of laptop is even cooler than under Windows, fan is almost quiet. I've set in acpi config to halt the system when i close the lid.

Curious, how or what did you do to get your system to halt when the lid is closed? I haven't been able to figure that out yet, so any info would be most excellent.

Configure acpid to respond to a lid switch event with the command "shutdown -h now".  The files in /etc/acpi/ should give you a pointer.

Sorry for delay. This is part of /etc/acpi/handler.sh file:

button/lid)
        #echo "LID switched!">/dev/tty5
        /sbin/poweroff
        ;;
    *)
        logger "ACPI group/action undefined: $1 / $2"
        ;;

Sweet thanks works like a charm. Was racking my brain to figure this one out and yet it was so simple I never even thought of doing this..:)

Zepto is rather nice too. *patriotic*

There were just a case where a man managed to get the refund for windows, after he declined the lisence agreament at the first boot, and told the store that he didn't want the windows copy.

Re: Laptops w/ Arch?

Distro surfed for awhile last year on a Dell Inspiron 5100, linux worked great on it.  Tried Fedora on it, for wireless had to patch the kernel to be 8k config stack, it was a pain.  Ubuntu worked fine on it, but no firewall by default and sudo'ing got old quick.

Swapped out that laptop to a much younger family member in dire need of a better computer.  Now I am on an old IBM thinkpad, PIII, 700 mhz, 256 mb ram, 20gb hd, Arch runs fine on it.  It used to have win 98 on it.  Since updating it to 0.8, had to append menu.lst file, got a kernel panic, but it was easy to fix.

Re: Laptops w/ Arch?

Acer Extensa 3001WLMi with ATI Mobility Radeon 9700

what works:
3D acceleration with ATI-Drivers
LAN
WLAN
Touchpad
(SD) Card Reader
Sound
Smart Battery AC-Adaptor status

Works not perfect:
Speedstepping
I have tu run the CPU at max freq 1,4GHz although it is a 1,5GHz one. The strange thing are the available scaling frequencies:

1600000 1400000 1200000 800000 600000

if I use 1,6GHZ the fan turns on very often

not tested but kernel modules are loadable:
Modem
Infrared
Bluetooth
PCMCIA
extra (Fn) Keys

Re: Laptops w/ Arch?

Update on the C400 issues. They seem to resolved more or less. DRI is now working without the laptop hanging itself every now and then.

One problem still persists though. S3 still does not work. There are some reports that people has gotten it working but it's not an arch specific fault rather than a linux or hardware problem.

If anyone finds or has a solution for this I'd be thankful if you told me tongue
