sorry, yeah your right. those were installed by the binary blob. after installing nvidia-dkms i have the ones you mentioned.

but you still cant just install older nvidia-dkms packages unless you also have the matching version nvidia-utils, then theres the lib32 packages that need to match as well. if the goal is to use an older version of the nvidia drivers then just install the binary blob that provides everything mentioned and with matching versions.  then comes the other problem i was mentioning before, anything 435.xx or later has a problem with prime synchronization (nvidia-drm.modeset=1) and vulkan apps/games causing a constant loop 5sec frozen, 1sec unfrozen.  430 and earlier dont have this issue, just thought i'd mention it in case the user actually uses the laptop for gaming.

How could you achieve such a mismatch without ordering pacman to ignore dependency tracking?
lib32-nvidia-utils depends on nvidia-utils and reverse conflicts lib32-nvidia-390xx-utils.
My suggestion to install nvidia-390xx-dkms would pull in nvidia-390xx-utils.  pacman would detect lib32-nvidia-utils dependency
on nvidia-utils is broken and I believe that would trigger pacman to offer to remove it.

OK - I just ran a full update (pacman -Syu) and pulled in packageds nvidia-dkms-440.36-1 nvidia-utils-440.36-1. Thanks @dglt for support an newer versions. I've never had a problem with gaming with the later versions of nvidia (I don't play many high ended games). I'm not too fussed about triple A games, as I don't own that many. Really, I'd like to get acceleration working again, but not necessarily for high end gaming. Hope that makes sense. Anyway, pulling those versions has rebuilt the modules against the kernel, so I'm going to reboot now.

still happens because of

You'll still have to at least include the additional ModulePath stanza from /usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/10-nvidia-drm-outputclass.conf  there.
( https://bugs.archlinux.org/task/64465 does unfortunately not provide the required context but the log clearly shows that the path extension does not take place and that causes this failure)

You also still have

[  1137.792] (EE) NVIDIA(GPU-0): Failed to initialize the NVIDIA graphics device!

which is most likely unrelated (see the log you posted in comment #3) what probably means the GPU does still not respond.

Are there open questions reg. the 390xx installtion following https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php … 0#p1874580 ?
