Re: i915 gpu is powered on 100% of time

@miomio have you already tried cherry-picking https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/ke … f1379307ab ?

No I'm not previously aware of that. What is the method for patching?

enable_rc6 was dropped because of something relating to Kaby Lake CPU's? Sorry, far too technical for me. I just wonder if that's the case perhaps applying the patch to revert the change will be OK for me using a non-Kaby Lake CPU. SoftRC6 - how does that work - automatically?

You don't have to worry about it, it should be enable automatically.

To check if you have RC6 usage, check with powerstat :

turbostat --quiet --show GFX%rc6,GFXMHz,GFXWatt,Bzy_MHz,PkgWatt,CorWatt,RAMWatt

You will know if have RC6 event with this command. I run 5.5.13 at this time, RC6 is ok now but igpu scaling is moving whereas I set it at 300 MHz in TLP ...

See Patching_packages.  The arch kernels will apply any source entries with the .patch extension so you only need to update the sources and checksum arrays.

Thanks. What are the pros/cons of clamping 300Mhz cap on igpu? Can you share the one or two lines from your tlp.conf that does this? And you have tlp toggling this when on bat, right?

Have you applied some patches yourself?

Re: i915 gpu is powered on 100% of time

I would like more battery life vs performance when I'm on battery.
My TLP conf is available here https://gist.github.com/kikislater/37e6 … -L193-L202

Still not working on 5.6.2 but it was working on 4.19.81 increasing battery life ...

Could you be more specific?  If you are asking have I patched arch packages myself.  I have numerous times.  If you are asking If I applied the patch I mentioned .  No as I have no system affected by the issue.

Re: i915 gpu is powered on 100% of time

I'd suggest some determination of whether the issue of no GPU downclock when idle affects you before trying a patch, not least to determine if it fixes whatever issue you have.
