Re: [Solved] Tips to optimize Archlinux to run programs more effectively

And in this case it's neither ;-)

@aaron4atkinson, the nvidia package automatically blacklists nouveau - you don't have to do anything in addition if you didn't add nouveau to the initramfs for early KMS support.

Re: [Solved] Tips to optimize Archlinux to run programs more effectively

I installed both drivers and after a bit of researching i cannot figure out what I messed up. I think in the process of installing nvidea and nvidia-utils I somehow messed up the Open GL Graphics driver mentioned on the archwiki for steam (https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/steam)
Now steam will not start, and I'm not sure on how to check for why. What should I do?

Re: [Solved] Tips to optimize Archlinux to run programs more effectively

That's a separate issue from the one this thread is about. Please don't turn this into a never ending chronicle of everything that doesn't work on your machine:
https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Co … ow_to_post

In fact, edit your thread title to reflect what this is actually about. Something to do with getting X working properly, I assume. It certainly has nothing to do with Tips to Optimise Arch, it is a support thread.

Alright, I think the thread has largely solved the issue was found to be that I didn't have the correct drivers for my graphics card.

@ondoho, try "pacman -Qs 'lIbDrM'" ;-)

Oops!

But this:

nvidea

would definitely not produce the desired output.

This has been bugging me all through the thread - it's kernel not kernal.

A surprisingly widespread error, I've seen it many times on many Linux forums.
I wonder if there's anexplanation for it.

^ Not sure that's the reason hmm
After I clicked Reply I thought about this podcast episode I listened to recently.
It does not explain why this specific error is so common, but it does explain why soundless vowels are often mis-spelled (e.g. dependancy) - because there's no way of hearing how it's spelled - maybe this means that such people prefer YT videos to wiki articles wink
