thanks strombladchris.. you can start by trying to get OOo to compile on x86_64 without the --disable-canvas and --with-system-boost options. see you on #archlinux64 !

Let's test it to make it stable soon.

Holy crap! This OpenOffice is actually snappy. The performance gain over earlier versions is huge. Finally, an OpenOffice that doesn't feel sluggish.
And it prints!!!

Next big step: OOo 2.1RC2 has hit TESTING repo :!:
o, I missed to tell you: JAVA enabled this time!

openoffice-base 2.1m6-1 runs wonderfully in this location & I want to thank everybody that made this possible
but it won't save a file in another format. i.e. I open a .doc file, clic "save as" .odt and it does not do anything (save window blink once then). Same the other way as well as from .sxw -> .odt

Try upgrading to the newest one in testing, and see if that fixes your problem.

When trying OOo from testing I get the following error in the console:
no suitable windowing system found, exiting.
Anybody have an idea what is causing this? I do not use KDE or GNOME. Is this now a requirement?
Offline
i run Xfce4.4 from testing and have no problems. can you please post the output from starting "soffice" from commandline!

That's all it says. It doesn't give anything more specific. I'll try it with xfce from testing and see if it works.
Offline
Strange. I've installed xfce from testing and now OOo works correctly. I'll investigate this further and report back.
Offline
OK, so I removed XFCE using pacman -Rsc. OpenOffice still works. I checked to pacman.log file to see if anything go left behind in the remove and I do not see anything which could have been changed.
What might be changed by installing Xfce that would remain after it has been removed. I first thought possibly and environment variable but output from env is the same with Xfce and following a reboot without Xfce.
Does anyone else use something besides Xfce, KDE or GNOME and are currently using this package? If it works, do you also have one of the above DEs installed?

Since OpenOffice released RC2 as the final version, does that mean that the version in testing is now the final?
Offline
Yes. So it is.

new package for final version 2.1.0 has hit the testing repo.
sry. too much problems with the gnujava based build(java based wizards and the whole "base"(db part) are not working, maybe more). we switch back to --without-java for a while. we keep trying to get it build with java support.
expect updated langpack packages very soon. time for testing is almost over!

Is there something wrong or missing with openoffice-base 2.1m6-3?

This problem seems to be related to libsndfile being required as a dep and not being included in the PKGBUILD. If anyone has this issue, installing libsndfile seems to make it go away (also, startup-notification if you don't have that either).

Hi!
I just have a little question. Is there any particular reason that OpenOffice doesn't save odt or anything else except doc and other MS file formats? Whenever I choose odt and click on the save button the windows doesn't disappear and the file won't be saved. Only choosing doc file format works.
So is there any reason for this?
Besides that the current version works pretty good. Nice work!
Thanks!

Back2Cali > had this behaviour as well, but everything's fine with /extra pkgs :
extra/openoffice-base 2.1.0-8
extra/openoffice-fr 2.1.0-1
Which work great in this location

maybe i will play with "binfilter" in the future. we are still not sure what features we should add and how they affect speed and package size. we will see.
Offline
Well, I'm using the package from the extra repo and it doesn't work here. Is there anything I can do?
Offline
Useless post. Look down.

Thanks for the new version, AndyRTR!
All problems with the missing file formats are gone over here!
So I guess it was caused by the missing Java support in the previous version.
Anyway, it's working and that's all that matters at the moment.
Thanks!

Yeah, thanks! It's much, much better now.

Does anyone else using the latest package get menu positioning problems with OOo when using OOO_FORCE_DESKTOP=gnome? I'm running fluxbox for WM and will try another WM tomorrow to confirm it isn't a Wm issue.
