Re: Problems with audio output

He's not interested in the HDMI output, "alsa-firmaware" would be "alsa-firmware" and I don't see which firmware he'd require. And he obvisouly *has* alsa-utils, "plasma-pa" is for KDE and completely not required to get the sound working.
The goal is to get

card 0: PCH [HDA Intel PCH], device 0: ALC274 Analog [ALC274 Analog]
  Subdevices: 0/1
  Subdevice #0: subdevice #0

active - as long as he can't get output on that subdevice via alsa directly, whatever he does on pulseaudio is completely irrelevant.

i having try in past, kernel mode settings, whitout success..

is completely unrelated nonsense

the same result

The goal is to identifies the proper device.

for example also vlc, or audacity, identifies an audio display that can be used as a hardware resource. And can be configured ..

to conclude ..
if we have an audio output.
and we don't use hdmi, we have to search as you say for an internal, connected hardware.

such as an integrated sound card, in the motherboard.

or a real sound card

There is nothing corrupt,

a) Realtek ALC274  is common chipset..

b) the connection is perfectly suitable to be both hdmi and ALC274 with the appropriate audio speakers connected.

c) you can use both. plasma-pa is highly configurable.

But first try see
https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=189331

and..
what is the output for ?

# dmesg | grep snd
$ pacmd list-cards

Re: Problems with audio output

geopardo, I tried your way of solution and it also didn't work (https://files.catbox.moe/9t8xzg.jpeg). What device must I actually use?
Also, pulseaudio wanted me to remove pipewire-pulse (this is just for a note, I did it)

Re: Problems with audio output

Of course not - nothing of his posts is in any way, shape or form relevant to your situation.
I suggest to take a look at hist posting history and reverse the actions you too itr…

As long as "mpv -ao alsa foo.mp3" doesn't produce sound, fumbling w/ pulseaudio or pipewire won't do anything.

card 0: PCH [HDA Intel PCH], device 0: ALC274 Analog [ALC274 Analog]
  Subdevices: 0/1
  Subdevice #0: subdevice #0

is the relevant subdevice - but it's not available for reasons™

Known causes for this are predominantly power saving and apparently the jack audio daemon does this (but you're not running that - it would have collided w/ pipewire-jack)
The hardware is detected, initialized and there're no firmware errors either.

You could boot into the multi-user.target (2nd link below) and see whether you can produce sound there (in case optimus-mananger or anything about your graphical session interferes here)

Re: Problems with audio output

Also (this may be useful) I updated my nvidia driver in windows and my sound went off there too. I tried other versions of the same driver and got the same issue (system sees my card and says that it outputs to that device but it doesn't. Even audio visualiser is showing some effects.) I downgraded the driver in windows and it was fixed. Is it possible that in linux there is the same issue?

Re: Problems with audio output

This is an optimus system and you're configuring it w/ optimus manager?
What if you remove optimus manager (and residual config files generated by it) and use the default prime offloading?

Please post your xorg log.

Re: Problems with audio output

The story was from windows, on linux I didn't do that. Also I don't know what is optimus, but I had it on the system. I tried to run it from the terminal and I got this

ERROR: a GPU setup was initiated but Xorg post-start hook did not run.
Log at /var/log/optimus-manager/switch/switch-20220605T160536.log
If your login manager is GDM, make sure to follow those instructions:

If your display manager is neither GDM, SDDM nor LightDM, or if you don't use one, read the wiki:

Cannot execute command because of previous errors.

(Note: my display manager is ly)
and I couldn't understand how to get xorg log

From wiki.
I just installed nvidia drivers via pacman.
I tryed that and got

Re: Problems with audio output

set up audio output to server pulseaudio
ok remove pipewire-pulse..

in fresh ark installations, i just follow pipewire resource packages...

whoever can choice different ways.. obtain same result

audioserver +libraries+framework+settings

try see for wiki pulse audio server
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sound_server
https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/PulseAudio
https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/PipeWire

edit:
first to remove something try to  to audio group..

$ cat /etc/group

find id here, audio group then..

# gpasswd -a user group

add youruser/s then reboot arch linux

Re: Problems with audio output

Disregard geopardo's comment.

From wiki.

Then how did you end up w/ optimus-manager and not knowing about it…

You're currently using the intel chip only. Please remove optimus-manager from the system (as well as /etc/X11/xorg.conf which is likely generated by it) to run the hybrid setup.
Something™ is deactivating the analog sound device and "Jun 02 00:01:54 arch-pc kernel: ACPI: Added _OSI(Linux-Lenovo-NV-HDMI-Audio)" makes me suspect that it might be related.

Though https://www.google.com/search?q=linux+ALC274+speaker has many hits sad
You could try to pass either "snd-hda-intel.model=dell-headset-multi" or "snd-hda-intel.model=alc274-dell-aio" to the kernel.

Re: Problems with audio output

Some other story) When I was installing arch, I wanted to use opensource drivers, I installed them and I had huge graphical issues (so that I had to use tty). I run terminal, don’t get any text I write to the screen etc. I though it’s because of the drivers, I installed nvidia drivers (actually without removing neuveau, because I read on the wiki that it is disabled automatically if there are nvidia drivers). The issue was solved automatically and I didn’t return to it, and didn’t try to configure.
Now, after removing optimus-manager, I have the same issue, so I have no idea what to do next.

Post an updated system journal and your xorg log, https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Xorg#General

Also, out of curiosity and to stay on topic: "aplay -l"  …

As long as "mpv -ao alsa foo.mp3" doesn't produce sound, fumbling w/ pulseaudio or pipewire won't do anything.

Are you sure? Wouldn't 'pipewire-alsa' kick in here with '/etc/alsa/conf.d/99-pipewire-default.conf'?

pcm.!default {
    type pipewire
    playback_node "-1"
    capture_node  "-1"
    hint {
        show on
        description "Default ALSA Output (currently PipeWire Media Server)"
    }
}

ctl.!default {
    type pipewire
}

Thanks.
I missed that that was even there (but it's apparently a gnome-dependency and mentioned in #15…) and it would certainly be a good idea to get rid of that for the time being.

Re: Problems with audio output

card 0: PCH [HDA Intel PCH], device 0: ALC274 Analog [ALC274 Analog]
  Subdevices: 1/1
  Subdevice #0: subdevice #0

??

Did you retry "mpv -ao alsa thunderstruck.mp3"?

Edit: the xorg log is actually an old one that still uses the optimus-manager generated config file.
=> /var/log/Xorg.0.log ?

Re: Problems with audio output

Try a local file?

You're now running the intel chip on xf86-video-intel instead of the modesetting driver.
=> remove all xf86-video-* packages. You don't need/want them and esp. xf86-video-intel is increasinly degrading.

Please confirm that you now have "Subdevices: 1/1" for "card 0: PCH [HDA Intel PCH], device 0: ALC274 Analog [ALC274 Analog]" - did you remove pipewire-alsa?

Re: Problems with audio output

I have to remove all xf86-video-*?
(I have amdgpu, dummy, intel, openchrome, vesa, voodoo, ati, fbdev, nouveau, qxl, vmware) I don’t know why I have them all but whatever.
Also, yes, I confirm that. Need I remove pipewire-alsa? (also if I have to replace it, say it)

Re: Problems with audio output

I have to remove all xf86-video-*?

Don't have to, but severely should.

Also, yes, I confirm that.

And do you now get audio across the speakers (in doubt also re-check alsamixer to make sure they're not muted)

Need I remove pipewire-alsa?

Not if the speakers now work. (Otherwise you may try, but the available subdevice already sounds promising…)
