Anyway I can't find the link to the torrents (only the 0.7.2 ISOs are available at the download page)

Some torrents are on linuxtracker.org

Re: 0.8 alpha/beta and final Voodoo installation feedback

I just want to thank all those who worked on the ISO. I have used two different beta versions that already worked amazingly well. The list of new features is incredibly long and some of these are real killer features! This will make Arch Linux so much easier since the most time consuming aspect - the installation - is way eased if you reinstall (or install on several similar machines).

THANKS!!!

Re: 0.8 alpha/beta and final Voodoo installation feedback

i downloaded the 0.8 iso by bittorrent
but i can't seem to seed that torrent. pb with the tracker ?

i just tested an install. all worked fine
except when i typed reboot
i got my CRT screen that showed an 'OUT OF RANGE' message as if some wrong frenquencies have been applied to it.

once the hdd calms down i hard rebooted. cause i couldn't see what was going on !

i booted on the install and it was ok

the only non-standard thing i have done was not to install grub. but just edited my /boot/grub/menu.lst on another partition.

Re: 0.8 alpha/beta and final Voodoo installation feedback

I tried using the addons to get my wifi going, on the ftp iso, but you're missing the kernel module package for ipw3945 in addons. adding ipw3945-1.2.0-2.pkg.tar.gz from extra makes everything work fine for me. at least until the kernel changes version on the mirrors.

its' a very a cool feature smile

I think it does not take long and the ipw3945 will be included in the kernel wink

Re: 0.8 alpha/beta and final Voodoo installation feedback

Hello,

I just wanted to report another successful arch install on a quite strange machine setup.
Raid0 (BIOS emulated software raid).
Had troubles with arch 0.7.2 install, after i configured the most devices it did work, after update i couldn't get it running (though, the devices were sda already before). Also, i had problems with noapic and similar, and simply couldn't get it up and running. Also, in the installer the harddrives were not properly configured (sda was unpartitioned and showed up 9 partitions and so on)

0.8 final handled this without any problem, just a usual install routine, and threw me into my new arch box within half an hour (including kde).
Really good work, who ever did the 0.8 installer (topwa?).

Did not install with: Fedora, Ubuntu, SuSE

ipw3945 will never be released into the kernel. There is a new upcoming hardware layer for networking, which includes native support without the ipw driver and daemon. Still alpha stage, but working, i don't see any chance before 2.6.24 for them to be in the kernel (kernel.org lists said 2.6.24 may be the release for the new layer).

Re: 0.8 alpha/beta and final Voodoo installation feedback

I used final 0.8 Voodoo i686 iso and had a successful install also. The only thing I had to do was my usual adding of my weird resolution I like to use 1152x864 to my xorg.conf.

K7S5A Motherboard
AMD Duron 900 MHz CPU
256MB RAM
NVIDIA RIVA TNT2 Model 64/Model 64 Pro

Re: 0.8 alpha/beta and final Voodoo installation feedback

I did an install of the 0.8base cdrom on my vaio
everything works fine (and I've added beryl so I have stuff to play with tongue)

the only problem is that if I have a cd-disc in my drive the kernel falls in a loop
the same thing that happened with the Alpha version

I just updated to kernel2.6.20-6.4 or something like that, I don't if it fixes this

This module is present in kernel, at least in the latest version.

Re: 0.8 alpha/beta and final Voodoo installation feedback

thanks for your report.

could you please be more precise what is bugged?
it sounds like a bug in kbd package but tell me where you need a change that it works, thanks.
the iso uses the maps from kbd package and is nothing specific to the iso.

I work on next archboot atm and i replaced the gzip and cpio binaries, which are klibc binaries in current 0.8 iso.

also making a bug entry for your issues would be fine.

Also, I was using LVM on top of LUKS encryption (not the other way round), so my initramfs has to decrypt the medium first. The hooks I could select could not be combined to do that. It's this patch that does what I need, I had to apply it manually:
http://bugs.archlinux.org/task/6806

Please test the new hook I posted on the bottom of that bug report, it is much more generic than the first one provided and integrates better into the scheme of things. Please post a comment on the bug report on success or failure.
