Try updating to 6.1.4 there have been a bunch of amdgpu fixes, other than that test e.g. the LTS kernel (... though unsure if that's new enough for the GPU)

Hi
Hok, I installed as per suggestion linux 6.1.4 All went well then today Ive had another crash.
I can upload the same to the website IF necessary(unsure if Anyone is actually viewing them from there)
I am concerned that the card although reported brand new is faulty in some way. I don't know
enough about AMD graphics, This whole machine is and now, I went with this card because it was available.
Half of me wishes I had decided on a NVIDIA card.

If you had got a Nvidia videocard you'd probably wish you'd have gone with amd (Nivida + wayland has improved but still has lots of issues).
I looked at the logs and noted you are using many kernel parameters in the boot command line.
intel_pstate=no_hwp rootfstype=btrfs amdgpu.aspm=0 amdgpu.runpm=0 amdgpu.bapm=0 pcie_aspm=off
are you sure you need all of them ?
Are you using latest firmware for your motherboard ?
please post the log from the crash and also a fresh one from a normal boot.

Hi
Originally I was stuck using wayland however since post-3/4ish we established a way of disregarding Wayland, and this is now a straightforward normal x11 affair.
Iam using the arch-installer to install it. I have not consciously used MANY Kernel parameters if any.
No Iam not convinced that I need them all, Yes I need that one at least
rootfstype=btrfs
Firmware for Motherboard no Iam not conscious of using firmware for my
B550 AORUS ELITE AX V2
Ok I have published on my site the logs from the previous crash(They are too big for pastebin) they can be downloaded from.

Normal boot logs are

Thanks for trying to help.

- The B550 AORUS ELITE AX V2 mobo has several HW revisions, but the only one I can find with a F16c firmware is revision 1.0 .
All revisions do list a later firmware though, F16d , see https://www.aorus.com/motherboards/B550 … 10/Support
- apart from rootfstype=btrfs all the parameters are meant for solving some issue, but it's very rare to need more than one or 2 of them.
They definitely need to be investigated.
- the amdgpu kernel modules appear to be loaded rather late in the boot process .
- presence of snap
I'd like you to :
update the firmware to F16d
configure early KMS as described at https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Kernel … _KMS_start
create a bootloader entry to test booting without intel_hwp , the amdgpu. ones and pcie-aspm .
Software using snap or flatpak can seriously screw up systems and should be used only as a last resort.
Which applications do you need snap for ?

Hi LoneWolf
I thank you for your help.
Snap's
Ile start with the last item first, I use snap primarily for password management (NordPass),
I also use it for (WhatsApp). whats app is very occasionally used, however, Nordpass is used heavily and is loaded at startup.
Firmware F16d
I have had a look around the driver site url you quoted, and I am unsure how to proceed. All the software appears to be windows
based. when I do 'yay -Ss B550' I do find something to control the RGB that's all. Can you point be to more definite information on
how to apply this fireware/software? Thanks for the digging. AH with the help of a friend Ive updated bios no need for more info.
Bootloader
I will study the information in the URL and see about a bootup option, I will reply further here once I have had a look.
All the parameters are the result of trying to install Graphic drivers of one shape or another.

I have studied this and I am uncertain how to go about it, more info is required. I have searched YouTube for help
as well as studying the URL you sent.
Edit: Disregard done: Creating a systems bootloader is there a video or more info to follow? I would have used grub-customizer or similar
but its systemd. To a seasoned pro like yourself probably easy to do. :edit
I am away to look at the bios settings having updated, I am using the defaults at the moment.
PS. Most of what you have requested has been done(just early KMS to work on), additional fresh logs Edit:no crashes ether:edit >>

Hi
I have now done all (I believe) that has been asked by Lone_Wolf, even the KMS,
However, I have after having the machine on since approx 04:20 -> 09:15 With reboots, just had another crash.
This time round ctl+alt+del did bring up the shutdown menu in amongst it all, I was able to click shutdown.
New logs have been posted on my website for download and examination>>
https://stevedoeslinux.com/15-1-23-logs-plus-grace-shutdown
Can anyone solve this?
Many thanks to all

yep, KMS is now used.

You also may have vaapi issues.
The firmware & kernel updates appear to have improved things a lot .
I see no messages that indicate aspm is having issues, so amdgpu.aspm & pice_aspm are no longer needed.
the only intel parts in your machine seem to be SSDs and wifi/bluetooth chipset. intel_pstate should have no effect at all on this system.
No idea yet about amdgpu.runpm and amdgpu.bapm .

" vaapi issues."
Not sure the meaning of 'vaapi'
It's usually written as VA-API and stands for Video Acceleration API .
one of your applications, streamdeck, complains about it not working .
"I see no messages that indicate aspm is having issues, so amdgpu.aspm & amdgpu.aspm are no longer needed."
pacman -R amdgpu.aspm =Unfound-or equivalent??
pacman -R amdgpu.aspm =Unfound-or equivalent??"No idea yet about amdgpu.runpm and amdgpu.bapm ."
ok
all 4 of those terms are kernel parameters that are/were present on your bootcommand line.
I'm torn on how to continue .
The issues look more software related and due to misconfiguration or clashing methods to install/maintain applications.
Your responses suggest you have very little xp with a do it yourself distro like archlinux, but do indicate you are willing and capable of learning.
I do think part of the problem is that you started using arch-install instead of the installation guide.
What is streamdeck and how did you install it ?
Apart from nordpass and whatsapp-for-linux (installed through snap) is there other software present that was not installed with pacman ?

Elgato Streamdeck hows it installed via python pip
https://github.com/timothycrosley/streamdeck-ui#readme
Its primararly a windblows programed device. I use it via the above Linux program.
I have the streamdeck XL basically push buttons to launch programs/ Insert text in discord, run scripts.
I come from a windblows background, I started of on Debian moved to KDEneon then to Arcolinux(where I answer questions
I know the answer to and do research and testing for) In between then and Arch I have been on Endevour OS to.
You mention my inexperience yes to a certain degree. But for instance, if you had said update bios then I would have known
exactly what to do instead of talking about firmware, yes the same thing but I know how to update bios.
Arch Install, I did it that way rather than having to type each command at prompt yes. Capable of learning yes, Iam used to GUI applications
rather than a list of commands to follow I did cut my teeth on Dos 5 -/- winblows 3. Videos or pictures are better sometimes than words.
Other software, no not really 'DaVinci Resolve', steam games, snap nordpass... ..
Edit: Thinking about it there is browser plugins to namely "nordpass" and "Workana"
Edit2: powerlevel10k to configure the prompt it has its own Github as well.
Please continue to help its either that or return the device(graphics card).

Hi
I have been reading the forum, not a bad thing. Reading about "random reboots"
D.Alt posted. "You'd want an in-depth reading at: https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Ryzen#Troubleshooting"
in that thread. Now I have a "CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 5600X (12) @ 3.700GHz " I am wondering also if I should
be investigating this as well
https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Ryzen#Troubleshooting
Up until now the processor has been fine though, even running games and being stable. Just wondering
if the new to me card could be causing some weird power drain.

For clarity :
I wasn't contemplating giving up but considering whether to advise a new install from scratch or continue with the existing one.
I've looked deeper and now think this install can be stabilised.
I checked the ryzen troubleshooting page and I don't think it's applicable to your system atm.
4.1 mentions MCE errrors being present and you have none. 4.3 was with early amd zen generations and hasn't been seen on later newer models at all.
4.4 is supposed to be fixed with Agesa 1.2.0.2 , you use 1.2.0.7 .
I have looked back at the logs after the firmware was updated and found there are atleast 2 separate problems.

The upper crashes are all related to the pip-installed streamdeck-ui .
Can you work without the streamdeck for a while ?
If not, there are 2 alternatives in aur .
One is streamdeck-ui which uses the same source as the python app, the other is called streamdeck from another author and uses a different library .
The last crash is kernel related.
https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/drm/amd/-/issues/2050 states this was solved in 5.19.x , but https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=282273 has a post from bitterhalt who had a similar errror with 6.1 kernel
linux-lts is currently at 5.15 (likely to old), and the next lts kernel hasn't been announced yet.
Do you have linux 6.0.x in /var/cache/pacman/pkg ?
last logs shows kvm is now enabled so that's taken care of.
You should also configure hardware video acceleration . install libva-utils and libva-mesa-driver , then run vainfo to verify it works .
Disliking systemd intensely, but not satisfied with alternatives so focusing on taming systemd.

For clarity :
I wasn't contemplating giving up but considering whether to advise a new install from scratch or continue with the existing one.
I've looked deeper and now think this install can be stabilised.Logs cut out

The streamdeck I haven't a choice Id like to use it, it has become part of muscle memory and sits on my desk begging to be used.
I have run the streamdeck-ui from the aur as you suggested, one would assume that one would have to undo the pip install not
exactly sure how yet but I will try and work it out. The program is still functioning as of now.
Edit: pip uninstall.......... now running of aur package.
The last crash is kernel related.

Glad you figured out how to remove the pip-installed version.
VA-API tends do a good job of autoconfiguring itself though not for everyone. The vainfo output matches what I expected and shows the autoconfig worked as intended.
The Arch Linux Archive has linux 6.0.12 as the last used kernel before we switched to 6.1 .
Do you have linux-headers installed ?
if not
add linux to the ignorelist in pacman.conf
use pacman -U to download & install linux 6.0.12 (see 3.1 of the above linked wikipage for an example)
reboot , test
If yes,
add both linux & linux-headers to the ignorelist
use pacman -U to download&install both together
reboot and test
Disliking systemd intensely, but not satisfied with alternatives so focusing on taming systemd.

Not the way suggested however I now have 6.0.12-arch1-1 via downgrade pkg and added to ignore.
Edit: Headers installed Not sure about the headers, I just
sudo downgrade Linux
picked the correct
version and added to ignore as part of the process.
Time will tell.

Hi Loan_Wolf
It was going so swimmingly I nearly changed to 'solved' then just now the machine halted
and logged me out while I was using it, another crash.
https://pastebin.com/JBdgHhxv
Will it never end I really thought it was fixed until now.

One thing that is bugging me should both Linux and headers have the same number?
I noticed when I went to upgrade-/-check for updates that a newer set of headers coming in,
so I stopped it downgraded, and added to ignore list.(this being the same number as was installed)

Looks like your network connection had a temporary failure.
Further in the log there are error messages from Streamdeck, but it doesn't seem to have crashed.
Nordpass on the other hand crashed hard and was not able to recover.
I think you should remove or disable the nordpass flatpak version and try with https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/nordpass-bin .
(I did notice the comment about not starting at boot, but the pacakge was updated 10+ times after that so that comment is likely to be invalid now)

Hi Lone_wolf
Its not liking something, I note, that the aplet for network was missing in the tray.
This was drawn from your post by you that the network crashed hard idea-ish
I have gone and installed
kde-network-meta 22.12-1
I can now find network manager in kicker menu, but its unpopulated, and not in the tray.
Please remember I have gone through the arch-install and selected kde like desktop environment only.
Anyway fresh crash logs from
https://pastebin.com/R6Bw3C6u
Please consider both posts this one and previous one.

You just got bitten by the major cause of trouble with any installer that tries to make installing easy.
The people that create / maintain such an installer make decisions for you.
Your network is managed by systemd-networkd, systemd-timesyncd and systemd-resolved and you were not aware of that.
At this point in time you lack the understanding of your installation to be in control of it. This will lead to big problems.
archlinux is not a good fit for everyone and for now I am not convinced you are a good fit for it.
I want you to think hard whether archlinux is fit for you.
If you do decide to stick with archlinux please start with a fresh install from scratch following the installation guide.
I know it's a lot of work and a huge amount of reading the first time you do it, but it's the best way to learn how your system and archlinux work together.
Doing this this way you will be responsible for making and executoing needed decisions and thus understand your system better and vastly increase the chance to stay in control of it.
