Re: Newbie stuck : installed graphics leads to freeze's

Hi Seth Lone_Wolf
After shutting down the machine and restarting I have another blackout.

https://stevedoeslinux.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/03/NewBlackout1.txt

This is so frustrating, however, every small change we have made has reduced the problem.
Perhapse this change of StreamDeck software matters.

https://stevedoeslinux.com/wp-content/u … ckout1.txt and https://stevedoeslinux.com/wp-content/u … ckout2.txt are the same jorunal and has a crash in nordpass and streamdeck apparently struggling w/ an invalid mp4.

Meanwhile https://stevedoeslinux.com/wp-content/u … oments.txt only shows how you failed to login

Please be more elaborative on the nature of the "blackout" - is it limted to some (streamdeck) (fullscreen) window?
Does the monitor complain that there's no signal?

The nordpass errors come after the logout so may not be important.
On the other hand ,  "/usr/bin/plasmashell --no-respawn"  requesting logout has been present in the majority of the log files.

Maybe it's time to investigate what could trigger that ?

Hi Seth.
How I failed to log in, It should be the same as the other two blackouts loggs.

No it looks like another crash so much so I am ready to reboot.
Both screens go black and there is no display give it about 2-3 seconds and the display returns, and the video (youtube) continues where it stopped,
After the desktops, icons and windows return.

I mentioned the software update of streamdeck they advise pip.......... to update which I have done.
python -m pip install streamdeck-ui --user --upgrade

No the monitor does not complain about no signal, it does not last long enough but its very similar to how a crash starts, so much so Iam ready
to catch it and start rebooting come logout.

Re: Newbie stuck : installed graphics leads to freeze's

Hi
Uncertain about the exact timing but I would say for 5Sec at least, nothing but a black screen.

https://stevedoeslinux.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/03/4-5Sec-blackout.txt

This is after watching more videos on youtube, but no actual reboot of the system. No the
monitors do not complain about lack of signal or other oddness. 'I am at a loss, I am off to read
and reply to questions asked.

Edit:
Probably utterly unrelevant but one thing I am now plagued with is the fact the KDE/Plasma refuses
to remember the positioning of the display output's I have screen left always loaded as screen right. I have to
change it to the correct order EVERY bootup. I have changed the cables over and it does not matter,
so I changed it/them back.

Looking at it I cant think of anything relating to streamdeck and mp4, its not like its streaming media.
Its a box/panel with buttons, that fire off actions keypresses.

Edit2:
Should I release the grip? Kernel driver's headers.

KDE/Plasma refuses to remember the positioning of the display output's

That would be kscreen's job, but you can https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Multih … _xorg.conf

No the monitors do not complain about lack of signal or other oddness.

If the video isn't supposed to be fullscreen, try to reproduce this w/ a disabled compositor (SHIFT+alt+F12)

Hi Seth Edit :Lone_Wolf

https://stevedoeslinux.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/03/BlankVideo-1.txt

New again, logged in and watching a video halfway through it goes blank, black screen
this time with no-signal lasted until I moved the mouse then it(video) returned. This is not
a fullscreen video it's just clicking on a video on youtube and watching. Frustrating.

I did a manual reboot, to complete the process.

I mentioned the software update of streamdeck they advise pip.......... to update which I have done.
python -m pip install streamdeck-ui --user --upgrade

That may mean you now have 2 installs of streamdeck-ui , one systemwide from aur managed by pacman and another for your regular user managed by pip.

please post the output of pacman -Qs streamdeck .

Indeed this is the case, I don't know if the regular pacman has now been updated.

Re: Newbie stuck : installed graphics leads to freeze's

It's an aur package that has been updated by the maintainer , but you have to build & install that yourself to get the update (this is true for all aur packages).

Having 2 different versions of the same software installed & maitnained by different tools can and likely will cause issues.

streamdeck interferes with your system on a low level and switching from the pip install to the aur package dd improve stability significantly .
(the same is true for replacing the nordpass flatpak install with the aur package).

You should decide once and for all whether you prefer user installed stuff  or pacman/makepg managed systemwide installs  of the same stuff.

Hi Lone_Wolf, Seth

I would like the newest, that being said I have removed both, and I am struggling to get the new one installed (Pacman).
It seems that the new one I have found "streamdeck-ui-git" is tripping up on installing python.

I have on the test machine ArcoLinux which I have been trying to install the newier streamdeck-ui-git on, but its clashing with python and failing there too.
What I think ile do is try a blank install of Arch using the installer and see if that works, on the test bench. Unless someone has a better idea.

Re: Newbie stuck : installed graphics leads to freeze's

packages ending in -git build development trees. They are the very latest but also untested and should be considered experimental.
looking at the changes made by aur streamdeck-ui and aur streamdeck-ui-git packages, the streamdeck-ui maintainer appears to be more actively involved.

Streamdeck seems to be something you would sorely miss if it didn't function well, I advise to stick to released versions and aur streamdeck-ui .

Hi I had a word with maintiner of streamdeck-ui-git And made him aware of the exstance of new version(streamdeck-ui) and
asked him to update the pkgbuild of streamdeck-ui-git the output of that package is streamdeck-ui he(I assume he) updated the
package. I now have a shiny new package installed and working streamdeck-ui .

We are not out of the woods yet I had a crash yesterday but was unable to get a Log of it.

Re: Newbie stuck : installed graphics leads to freeze's

Hi A bit of topic but I hope not too far, it was a toss-between here and a new thread.

I work with dual-head graphics and have manually done  DPMS settings thanks for the tip.
The problem now is audio it won't stay connected to dp1->hdmi4, everytime I get DMPS it jumps to
the wrong display screen and not through the correct display/with headphones.

I think there would be a way of tying in the audio to display settings! I can't see a way
of LOCKING it(sound) to HDMI4/DP?

Re: Newbie stuck : installed graphics leads to freeze's

Hi Seth, Lone_Wolf
Was using streamdeck and discord, trying to sus out how to work around a 'key entry' and 'text entry' in discord.
So would not surprise me if this is down to streamdeck loop.

In another crash, I was able to pick out the yellow restart button on/in the screen jumble.

Re: Newbie stuck : installed graphics leads to freeze's

I think the audio issue should be dealt with in a new thread.

Latest log only shows an authentication failure. Does streamdeck store / provide passwords or is nordpass the only one that does that on your system ?

I did notice 2 other things :
- several non-standard things are mounted . Are some of them only reachable over network ?
post lsblk -f .

- your kernel is still at 6.1.11 , I think it's time to switch to latest kernel, 6.2.2 now, and test with that.

Ok Roger

Lone_Wolf wrote:

All the authentication failure is this, log-in issues only and keyboard repeat rate.
There is no streamdeck store for LINUX. It is simply a means of launching programs,
and inserting text into discord fields, or other programs. I launch 'nordpass' by pushing a button it is then only
nordpass app that fills in passwords into text fields in the browser.

I boot the machine and login 'cli' (eventually) sometimes that takes a few reboots, password entries wrong it locks
rather than waiting ten minuets,  I hard power off and restart.

Edit: after successful login(cli)

It then continues the boot process and logs into Plasma.
Plasma starts, and this displays a dialogue stating the keyring did not get unlocked.
I then reinsert my pass into this dialogue (meantime) autostart has launched nordpass this is sitting waiting for MasterPassword.
Back to the keyring password entering, when I hit enter the keyring unlocks and nordpass closes this then I have to relaunch from the streamdeck button

GCVM_L2_PROTECTION_FAULT_STATUS again.

There is a firmware update to F17b , try with that one.

The use of that pip update for streamdeck still affects your system. It does look like later in the log the systemwide streamdeck takes over,  no idea how to verify that.

Re: Newbie stuck : installed graphics leads to freeze's

Hi All, Seth, Lone_Wolf

Just when I thought it was safe to get back in the water....

Was using streamdeck quite heavily at the time, so possibly that.

Still the same error .

I noticed you are running 6.2.2 kernel and mesa 22.x . Try updating, linux 2.6.7 and mesa 23.0 have been in use a while now and don't show issues.
clean up your ignore list (if it's still used) and run a full update.

Not sure here: Ive
upgraded Linux and Linux headers to the same number 2.6.7

But mesa Iam struggling with when I try and look for it I am getting unfound, what exactly is the package called? I bet it's on the ignore list.

You say clean up ignore list a pointer pls? Ile go search as well.
Both Linux and headers have been removed from ignore list.

Finally that amdgpu I see in the list you highlight you posted should it be updated as well?

UPDATE my system I do that 2-3 times a day somedays.
