/me suggests an own Jabber-Server without user-registration for conferences. jabber.archlinux.org? I agree it is Overkill, though.
Todays mistakes are tomorrows catastrophes.

Hmm, maybe someone should fixup the first post to contain the right address for a start.
Secondly, is the channel admin still "online"?

No, he did not, but I am not whether I mailed him before yet.
Just sent him a mail right now, so we should give him a few days to answer.

Sorry guys I've been very busy with real life, haven't even been at a computer for over a week until now.
I'm not sure but I think I'm not the author of the channel, there were som discussion and someone else created a new channel...
Gonna check when I get home tomorrow.
Really sorry about the delay hope you still have some hope left for the jabber channel!
EDIT: I went online in: archlinux@conferance.jabber.org and archlinux@chat.amessage.info but both were empty and the amessage one said that it didn't exist :S
Well well I'll try to be online for the coming days so try to catch me at the group chat

archlinux@chat.amessage.info was created by me (since I used amessage.info) because I was seeking for a faster server than jabber.org, but it turned out amessage.info had some issues as well.

Some amessage servers seems to be down since some time ago. In the jabber.org room somebody suggested jabber.se as an alternative for a server.

I have a XMPP aka jabber system running which you all are free to join and make it your home.
http://zaxter.org/xmpp.html I just added archlinux room today.
Update the flash client on this system to join archlinux room.
http://c.zaxter.org/chat/linux.php
Added anonymous arch login for the flash client.
http://c.zaxter.org/chat/arch.php just click connect.

Hmm, a faster server would be fine, but I think we shouldn't start spreading on different servers.
Besides, we choose jabber.org as it is the reference server, and therefore will probably exists longer than ourselves, we can't be so sure about that on other (private) servers.
It's really a bit laggy sometimes, but I don't know why exactly.. (the jabber.org one)

Point taken and was not trying to spread users about, simply have a system sitting on a T1 doing much of nothing, so I thought I'd share. Yet not share nor log like http://logs.jabber.org/ and others tend to do. ; )

Our channel doesn't get logged, cause we didn't want to.
No channel gets logged by default on jabber.org, you have to ask the admin to log your channel(s).

On some lagre communities where part of the users prefer Jabber and others IRC a solution was to relay message between an IRC channel and a MUC room, easily done with a bot that sits on both, or even further extending the jabberd implementation...
Maybe now that google, aim and others have adopted XMPP more users will be interested in Jabber and MUC.

You need to install an RTFM interface.

And when they monkey around with that T1, like now : ( You can also use b.zaxter.net
Hope it helps.

Out of curiosity, what exactly does a Jabber channel offer that our current IRC channel fails to provide? It sounds to me like this is an answer in search of a problem.
I ran a quick Google search on "Jabber vs IRC", but could not find anything really convincing.
Or perhapse I am missing something...
