("Commercially available, undamaged and closed" - I guess you don't have an RF meter?)

It's a laptop, a Lenovo E595 to be exact. I wouldn't think that could be the problem.

*All* your previous tests (incl. the last one!) have resulted in read failures and there's a pending sector. The drive is NOT trustworthy at all.
After backing up all data w/ ddrescue, run badblocks to see how bad it is.
