If it's a visual thing only, you'll get a brand new kitty process in "ps ux" (that'll work on the other TTY as well)
Also try whether

exec-once = kitty

autostarts a kitty.

Kitty didn't show up in ps ux.
Also, setting kitty to autostart didn't do anything.

Does sway print any error messages?

Start it like this from a TTY then try opening some applications and share ~/sway.log here:

sway > ~/sway.log 2>&1

Note that sway uses https://archlinux.org/packages/extra/x86_64/foot/ as the default terminal with <Mod4>+<Return> to open it (<Mod4> is also know as the "Windows" key).

While at it you can also try to start foot from hyprland and also check https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Core_d … _core_dump whether kitty crashes - it's obviously not a "the window doesn't get rendered" issue.

It's a little embarrassing to say, but it seems like sway is working just fine. I thought originally it wasn't because I didn't have foot or know that it was the default for sway. Nothing was opening in sway, probably because I didn't have them. I tried opening foot in Hyprland, but it didn't do anything.

The person (Zurite) whose account this is has passed away. His last wish was for me to figure out how to get Hyprland working on his 2006 intel core duo laptop. All I had to do was to recompile with legacy rendering, and it ran near perfectly. I will be taking over this account in memory of his name.

To seth: I checked the config file, and it was configured correctly to spawn foot as the terminal. I assume he knew to use keybinds but I don't know...

On another, more interesting note, I've so far found that, within Hyprland (which I am typing this from), there appear to be graphical artifacts (stretching) when scrolling in firefox, among other slight rendering issues. I assume there is not much to be done about this, given the legacy rendering. Any ideas?
