Arch Bootloader 05.01.24 Init Fail during boot

I access the Arch grub menu just fine and select the first option to load into the Arch bootloader environment. Then it starts to load and lots of lines of text fly by. Then it stop and issues a fatal error that says Init not found and mentions busybox.

There is no path forward from this point as I had tried my best to find it.

I thought I would post this in case others were experiencing the same thing and to learn if I was the only one (which would puzzle me for a while if so).

Is anyone else failing to get to the prompt?

The Arch ISO has no grub menu anymore. Looks like your issue is coming completely from Ventoy?

ventoy seems to have some special arch hook and tries to parse the /init script it expects to find in the initramfs. Maybe that fails when the microcode initcpio is prepended or so? You should file a bug with ventoy, though.

Re: Arch Bootloader 05.01.24 Init Fail during boot

Yeah this might have something to do with what a guy wrote in the issues page on ventoy's GitHub repo

He said when he installed this version of the ISO rufus popped up a message during install to the USB that said:

"This mirror uses Syslinux 6.04/pre2-11-gbf6db5b4, and this program only contains the installation files for Syslinux 6.04/pre1. Since the new version of Syslinux is not compatible with other versions, and Rufus can't possibly include all of them, you need to download two additional files (ldlinux.sys and ldlinux.bss) from the Internet. The two extra files (ldlinux.sys and ldlinux.bss) need to be downloaded from the Internet."

I have been searching high and low for more information on this and I found the files mentioned at the version it said it needed and now I am trying to figure out where to place said files in regards to using ventoy as my vessel to execute the arch USB loader.

If anyone understands what I said better than I have so far and has any advice please let me know.

Good job on hunting this issue down. I'm super impressed with you guys right now!

I have an old (10+years) asus laptop which booted fine until the 2024.03.29 iso, either uefi or bios mode.
Now with this latest 2024.05.01 iso, it only works in bios mode, if I select uefi I got exactly the same error as yours.
Then when in uefi/systemd-boot I tried to edit/append "acpi=off" to the end of the line and it worked!
Hope it helps, please let us know...

edit: forgot to mention, same problem with ventoy;

There's no way you could get the same error without ventoy

Yes, sorry, I tried many times and thought the error was the same, corrected my edit above...

Error preparing initrd: Device error

That message is from systemd-boot.
If you are certain that the ISO was properly downloaded and written to the drive, then consider reporting this upstream to the systemd project.
