Re: 5.16.0 seems to break my Taylor Peak wifi (iwlwifi)

 git bisect good
1fb053d9876f2a580a5e55833dfdee5a361efba5 is the first bad commit
commit 1fb053d9876f2a580a5e55833dfdee5a361efba5
Author: Johannes Berg <johannes.berg@intel.com>
Date: Fri May 2 15:56:28 2025 +0300

wifi: iwlwifi: cfg: remove unnecessary configs

Since there are two bytes hole in struct iwl_dev_info, add
a subdev_mask to match with. Also, since the PCI IDs list
needs to match first, and the dev-info list is matched from
the bottom up, remove unnecessary entries.

With this, even though there are new entries from previous
changes, the overall size is slightly reduced.

 	IWL_DEV_INFO(iwl1000_bg_cfg, iwl1000_bg_name,

Not exactly sure what the correct fix would be here but it looks like they either forgot a "SUBDEV_MASKED" for the 0x0084 cards they removed. Could be the "DEVICE(0x0083), SUBDEV_MASKED(0x5, 0xF))," was meant to be "DEVICE(0x0084), SUBDEV_MASKED(0x5, 0xF)),", but that is hard for me to say for sure. I will provide details to the Kernel bug tracker and hope somebody with more knowledge about the code, can help take a look.

Re: 5.16.0 seems to break my Taylor Peak wifi (iwlwifi)

Just as an update, I got the following response from Intel on the kernel bug I created (https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=220477):

Thank you!

People are on vacation right now, but we'll fix this shortly.
Thanks!

Re: 5.16.0 seems to break my Taylor Peak wifi (iwlwifi)

There are now a patch file on https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=220477 for my specific issue "iwlwifi: No config found for PCI dev 0084/1315". I have verified the fix and it works but it does not solve the problem with potential other cards like "pci dev 0085/c220" which is what this thread are about.

Sorry for now having mention that card in the issue I created. Hope they will also fix that one (and potential other cards they might have skipped by accident with this update).

Re: 5.16.0 seems to break my Taylor Peak wifi (iwlwifi)

0084:1315 patch has been posted for review https://lore.kernel.org/linux-wireless/ … @changeid/.
0085:C220 now has a patch on the kernel bugzilla https://bugzilla.kernel.org/attachment.cgi?id=308561.
Edit:
Both commits are now in the wireless tree waiting to pulled to netdev https://lore.kernel.org/linux-wireless/ … tions.net/ from there to mainline then they can be queued for stable.
Edit2:
Both fixes landed in 6.16.6, 79be735 wifi: iwlwifi: cfg: restore some 1000 series configs and b9b9e95 wifi: iwlwifi: cfg: add back more lost PCI IDs.

Re: 5.16.0 seems to break my Taylor Peak wifi (iwlwifi)

Linux kernel 6.16.6 and upcoming 6.17 contains the needed fix for my card to be detected again. After installing 6.16.6 my card are yet again detected. Thanks Intel for fixing this.

Now, I then get some weird firmware related issues which randomly kills my Wifi but I have yet to have the time to dig deeper into what might cause those issues. Will create another thread about this issue it needed.
