Sure, I can do it myself, I can even download a binary version from Blender website. The point is that packages are not really created by community but by one person who maintains this package. Will it change in future?

We are Arch. Meaning targeted to advanced users. We have a working pkg in the repos. Even maintainers have sometimes vacations. That shouldn't be a big problem. We all work for free and sometimes have no time/interest for that. Therefor we have abs. You should know how to update a pkg yourself.

For blender we have plans on rewriting the PKGBUILD. This will take some time.

Follow the public-devel mailing list. We have plans on restructuring the whole pkg maintenance process. Not yet decided how much or if at all the community will be involved in making official packages.
