Re: The Official Hello Everyone Thread

Howdy!

I've been using Arch for over a year now but I saw a question on the forums that I thought I might be able to help answer so I went ahead and registered. I'm pretty good with python and am learning C++ now....It's quite a leap.

I've returned to Arch. Has anyone missed me? smile
I feel like such a geezer returning to Arch now. No more /etc/rc.conf, no more "rc.d start food," no more of that now. sad Oh well, at least Pacman has remained constant (and I'm not too out of touch to remember how pacman-key works!).

I'm looking through my older posts . . . I was such a bastard. Oh well, such is life when you're 16 years old and have access to the internet and too much free time. tongue

Re: The Official Hello Everyone Thread

Well... just finished installing my Arch system and it took me a couple hours to do it (horrible network connection). It's my first time with Arch linux and I do have to say so far it's been the most interesting distro iv'e messed with. Hopefully going to create my "dream" distro using Arch since I tried with a couple of other distros and didn't work out too well...lol But glad to be here though! DEATH TO UNITY!! -_-... (sorry I dislike Unity with a fiery burning passion)

Re: The Official Hello Everyone Thread

I am disappointed that my username OldAl was rejected.  So I changed it to OldAlgis.  I guess someone else has
registered as OldAl.  But is that person really, really old?  Well, I am  88 (and will be 89 RSN - in about 30 days!).

How can you call yourself old, OldAl?

Thank you for the welcome.  So why was my proposal to register OldAl as a user rejected?  What possible reason for it, other than a clash with an existing name?

How do you know that? Is there a hidden search function I've missed?

Re: The Official Hello Everyone Thread

Hey all.

First of all I just wanted to praise you all for the amazing job you have done with the wiki and especially the AUR.

I am old Red Hat / Cent OS guy and always loved the whole idea of starting with a base and minimal system and build my own setup. This was my first try with Arch and absolutely loving it.

I have mostly used Linux for servers(work) so this was my first try with setting up a proper desktop environment. I had Windows 8 on this PC which was mostly used for gaming and photography work.

Gnome, Steam, Libreoffice, Spotify and Gimp running with amazing performance, really surprised.

Sorry, moderators cannot help with this.  Maybe an administrator.

I do believe that makes you the oldest person on these forums.  I think you are older than lilsirecho by about 8 months smile

How many accounts do I need? There's a different one for each section, aur, wiki, bbs, bugs, download, google. Why is this? Is this the KISS principle? hmm

Behind the curtain, Arch is a bunch of independent projects flying in loose formation.  The machines and the people running the Forums are different that those in charge of the AUR, which is different than the mail lists, which is different from the bug tracker, which is different from the wiki, which is different from the IRC.  There is some overlap -- Xyne is a TU and a moderator.  But off these forums, I am just a normal Arch user.

Hi everybody,

My name is Nomko and i'm using Linux since 2007. Started with Ubuntu 7.04 up till 10.04.3. Dichted Ubuntu for Mint due to that ugly Unity desktop. Now i want to play with Archlinux a bit since i heard a lot of good stuff about Archlinux.

https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Sy … hange_root

"Your Arch install will already be mounted on /mnt

is "/mnt/arch" right?

Re: The Official Hello Everyone Thread

Hello people!

Been using Linux for a year or so. Tried Ubuntu first, of course. Didn't like it because everything was already done for me, but not the way I like it. Wanted to customize stuff!
My idea was to get a LFS, but a friend talked me into trying Arch first, and I love it thus far, with the exception of a few fubars and reinstalls here and there big_smile

Cheers.

Re: The Official Hello Everyone Thread

Hello everyone in the forums!

I've been using Linux OS's for about 3 years now. Started with Ubuntu, stayed there ever since and probably continue so (i'm Administrator of the Ubuntu Greek Translators and i have more than 4000 posts on the Greek Ubuntu user support forums), but i like to keep an open mind and i always like to try and learn new stuff, so i've tried many different distros (all of the main ones).
I hadn't tried Arch till now, but always heard so much good things about it, so i was moved to jump in this train.

So far i like what i see and it feels great that after a minor setback i'm now typing my first post in this forum from my very first Arch Linux installation!

I'm looking forward to a great journey with Arch Linux and it's community.
Happy holidays everyone smile
