Re: The Official Hello Everyone Thread

@barius, welcome to the Arch obsession (I know you said you've been using it for years).

The more I use and learn about Arch, the more I love it.

It's been a while since I browsed the Arch gear store. I'd love a T-shirt if only it had a pocket for my cigarettes & lighter. Oh hey, I love Belgian beer!

Cheers!

Hi from Germany! smile
I'm using Arch now for about a week and I already love it. It really gives you full control and so it's pleasantly easy to troubleshoot. And thanks to the AUR I can now use skype much better. Thank you smile

@Sindarin, I noticed you got your printer working, using gutenprint (and your own persistence). Only a couple items left on your checklist, and your goals are met!

@Hirnaffe, Hi and welcome from Texas. I'm glad you joined.

Yeah!! @Texbrew, the printing issue needed to be fixed soon because it's the PC that uses my father,
I'll be reading now and then before I ask next.

It means Fixed That For You. You'll get the hang of the internet lingo fast enough and you can use the Urban Dictionary for the most common ones.

And hey, the best way to master a language is to use it. Many of us started out with less than perfect English. smile

@Sindarin, dont't feel bad, friend. Some say we Texans don't speak English none too good (very well), either. We just smile and keep talkin'. Hope you keep talkin' to us. I say again, Welcome Aboard!

And that FTFY thing? I had to "google" it (before runical explained it).

@madhatta2003, Howdy Partner! Sorry, I couldn't resist. I know we're already stereo-typed quite enough...

I like puzzles okay, but I especially like computer puzzles, if by that you mean puzzling your way through getting something to work in a computer.

Anyway, I'm glad you joined.

I had to look up the meaning of Bambi. Maybe the Arch Linux developers can post a "Bambi Guide for Arch Linux" this coming April, to replace the old Beginner's Guide? wink

Giggle-snort, I looked it up, too, Doc. My Urban Dictionary vocabulary has now grown to three words.

I don't see a "Bambi Guide" coming anytime soon, though...

Hello Archers,
I have been learning Arch for a little over a year now.

I hope to find some unanswered questions, and help build this community.

Re: The Official Hello Everyone Thread

Hello everyone! smile Although I already wrote my first post in the forums (mandatory troubleshooting) where I wrote a kind of small introduction, I'm writing an official hello here smile

Glad I could finally join the community and install Arch! If feels good when I finally decided to switch to a Linux from Windows - was waiting for an occasion for a long time - and get to tinkering with OS to my heart content without artificial limits smile.
I probably won't be able to completely abandon Windows for some time, as I use my PC extensively for gaming, but at the moment I'm running on Arch only tongue. Eventually I'll most likely install Windows on a second partition for dual boot or VFIO with GPU passthrough for games that I won't get running on Arch, but I hope that one day it will be possible to game only on Linux system, especially seeing how situation steadily improves in this field smile.

Re: The Official Hello Everyone Thread

Hello from Germany,

about a year ago I decided I needed an exit strategy for MacOs because it was starting to annoy me in more and more ways. So I tried several Linux distributions all of which I kind of liked. But after a while I thought that if I were to switch to Linux I might just as well make it a radical switch.

So, now I'm here running Arch with i3wm. Not everything is working yet the way I want it to but I'm getting there. I'm still using MacOs for certain things (mainly audio / video work) but I'm slowly becoming independent.
