Hello!
Hey!
And hello to the rest of you Archers.
I'm Hydrolous, a hydrogeologist from Australia. I've been using Arch for several years now and distro hopped prior to that. I wouldn't exactly call myself a newbie but there are times (often when I should put on my glasses) where I fail to read logs and question why something broke.
Away from work, I'm developing home automation on my RPi, which runs Arch and playing DF.
I've always enjoyed going through the Arch forums but never really had time to participate. So I hope I can contribute something meaningful in the years to come.

@ Hydrolous, Better late than never, welcome to the forums. I had to look up the word "hydrogeologist". I'm sure that's an interesting profession, but you didn't come here to talk about work.
My wife and I have been watching the Australian TV series, "The Doctor Blake Mysteries" on Netflix. Pretty good show. I have enjoyed a number of Australian productions - American TV is mostly junk, in my opinion.
I'd love to get my hands on an RPi and install Arch ARM on it. Home automation, I think, is "above my pay grade".
Edit: for clarity.

Olà,
I'm a Linux sysadmin, not working much on Arch, but I managed to install it on my smallest laptop, so now I can show off when I'm going places .
I love the wiki, and the forum helped me few times as well. I like the philosophy of the distro and the taste of future it provides. I registered today to be able to thank a member and share my latest work on conky with specifc adjustments that were required for Arch).

Hello!
Choosing a Linux distro is one of the most daunting tasks for me. Like, this one is cool. Hey that one comes with KDE, this one with GNOME. Hey heard about Unity ! New UI, new looks. Cool! But... My current distro is having issues with installing it. Okay, I'm a debian fan, I'll do `apt-get unity` and boom! It crashed! PPAs everywhere. Helllppp! I am using Linux but all messed up..
Then saw Arch coming, with a sleek logo. Honestly, I got attracted towards Arch because of its logo.
A learning curved they promised. A home like distro they offered. Full of zeal, I installed Arch on my new (and only) laptop.
My journey with Arch started...
Wait what ! There's no zsh, no this, no that.. I'll have to install everything manually ? Well yes. And that was one of the most amazing tasks. It felt like building my own house block by block without any bloatware.
And then the new news. Partial updates are not supported. Really ? I need to update my whole system every time I wanna update something specific. Isn't that bad ....? Well no! That's amazing! Arch updates are cool. Small updates everyday rather than one 2GiB update makes me feel more at home.
And the Arch Forum/IRC, That's my new tech family ^_^.
PS: I still love Arch for its logo.

@MrHritik, your post ranks high in my list of entertaining "Hellos". I predict you are going to love Arch Linux. And yes, I love the logo, too.

Howdy! I've been using Arch for about 3 months now. Its been a wonderful experience for the masochist in me. I attempted to rice my desktop a couple days ago and I'm pretty happy with it. I couldn't quite figure out polybar (I think I missing something because even the example bar looks horrible but no obvious errors), but realized I didn't care too much after a while. If you want to see my crappy config or share yours with me email me! (or if you have helpful pointers for i3 configs)
Also I'm a physics student currently doing research using ML to classify binary blackholes with python things. If you're interested in learning about such things please message me!
Nice to meet you all!

@egg, I envy your choice of a 3 letter username, and "egg" is a very interesting one. Welcome to masochist heaven.

Masochist to say the least. Haha I thoroughly enjoy trying new things even if I break my system.

Welcome aboard. You seem like a decent bloke, just FYI "rice" as a verb has racist origins.
What ML do you refer to? I would have guessed the language but then you say python.

Welcome to the forums. So, Arch became your favourite distro before you started using it?

I think it was my favorite before I used it, I just didn't know it yet.
Edit: @Seenivasan, welcome aboard.

Hi! I'm newbie in linux, since kid liked it so much, so now at 19yo, decided to learn some python and linux knowledge. Kinda silly for learning and numbers, so well.. Anyway, i chose to do Arch cause i like to suffer. I've reinstalled Arch like 3 to 5 times in a week, due to some mistakes with the kernel and grub. I'm from Taco-landia.
I hope going well here, is my first interaction with a forum site. If you know spanish u ma friend. Anyway, i'm in love with this linux, even if it is so confusing.

I think of it as learning through suffering.

I know a few words, but can rarely use them in a sentence.

You may have done yourself a huge favor. @ moderators, Joking! If I used smilies, I would have used a couple by now. @mwszaj, can you re-install windows if you want?
Anyway, Love to Linus!!
Yes, and Thanks to Linus. @mwszaj, I hope you get your Arch installed just the way you want it.

Hi, everyone,
I'm not really a Linux user as of now (registering here was fun), but I have been keeping an eye on the scene since 1998 with various experiences. I found my way here because these forums have been coming up with a number of web searches recently, so I thought it could be nice to ask questions here in the future.
Be nice to me.

OK, we'll try. Sounds like you may be toying with the idea of installing some flavor of linux? Too many reasons to list why most of us think that's a good idea, so don't get me started.

Greetings from Finland!
I have been Windows user since I got my first PC (middle of 90's), although I tested RedHat at one pointreally shortly (I used to play games at that time, so GNU/Linux wasn't good to for me). Perhaps last 5 years, I have had Macbook Pro so with OS X.
Maybe 12 months ago I installed Virtualbox to my Windows 7 laptop, tested shortly some of the distros. Mint, Manjaro, Ubuntu.. I actually installed Debian to one of our Industrial embedded PC (for testing purpose). Sure I have Raspberry Pi in the house, that have been two years or so.
As I have played a little bit Arch Linux on VB some hours (installation process and more..), I bought brand new laptop, with preinstalled Windows 10 Home. Not that powerful laptop, but good enough (i3 2.4GHz, 6GB RAM, 128GB SSD). I cleaned the SSD and installed Arch Linux. My current, and only, operating system is Arch (well, Macbook is still there, but I don't use that so much). More I use, more I love it. Of course this needs practicing as I'm pretty new Linux user but somehow I see this really easy to use.
Google is my dearest friend. With it I have managed to install and configure my Arch. Waiting for stickers to hide HP and Windows logos...

Hello everyone! I'm a new forum user and in a few hours I'll be trying out arch on my lovely machine! I'm sure I'm gonna like it!

Hi all,
I'm a computer scientist and web development enthusiast. I transitioned to Linux about six years ago, starting with Ubuntu like most people, and I switched to Arch a couple of years ago. I enjoy setting up my machine with only the software I want, and I've been quite happy with both the official repositories and the AUR. Arch is my favorite environment to develop in thanks to its speed, lack of bloat, and bleeding edge packages.
My twelve-year-old son has also recently gotten into Linux, and I'm hoping that soon he'll be getting familiar with Arch too.
