Hello!

Took a challenge and installed Arch as for only OS for december. Gonna be a fun project to learn new stuff. Always used Windows as main operating system so im a total n00b when it comes to Linux, but I want to learn more. I have tried Ubuntu many years ago, but it didnt hook me up that much in Linux world lol.

Hi everyone. Using Arch for about 2 years now.  I love how it forced me to learn so much more about computers, Linux and free/open source software.  I'm looking forward to participating on the forum and building the community further.

Hey there, I thought I'd say hello here as well. Hi

I'm Mario, a Computer Engineering student. This is my second time installing Arch (the first time didn't go too well). I installed it because I wanted to have the most up-to-date packages every time, the freedom to install whatever I wanted to and the learning experience. I really think installing Arch and troubleshooting it teaches a lot about how operating systems work.

I think it is also safe to say that a friend of mine, avid Arch user, might have convinced me to come back.

I can say that it had been a while since I had this much fun just using an OS, so I think this will be a long term relationship.

Hello all.

Looking for a stable and efficient base for:
- Creating vector files for cnc, already using Inkscape.
- Learning and implementing C programming language.
- Basic NGINX Server.

That's why I'm here. They told me ARCH is the one.

Except for picom it seems to not want to work for me when it comes to transparency for some reason.

A few gaps here and there but that's normal (after all, not everything works on Windows either).

Hello all! Just picked up a Framework 13 with AMD and decided it needed Arch on it. I have used rpm and deb based systems for years, but wanted something that reminded me of long ago installs. I loved setting this laptop up and want it to be my long term laptop for a host of things, including gaming.

Hello! I have been using Linux for a few months. Started with Fedora on my old laptop a few months ago and transitioned to Arch a couple weeks ago dualbooted with Windows. I'm still very much a linux newbie but learning quickly!

Hello Arch!
After some years of using Linux I have finally made it to Arch. I believe this experience has taught me more about Linux than any other and I appreciate that. I have been able to build my system exactly the way I want it and when there are difficulties I am much better prepared to handle them. Thanks to all who make this distribution possible with the concise instruction and documentation that help a person to learn.

I'd decided to give Arch a go and have certainly found it better than anything I've run in the past - so well done. Specifically, the efficiency of the package manager, the detailed wiki and bloat-free installation are aspects I find quite refreshing.

Wow, just amazing ! This forum existed even before I was born

This is my first forum post here as all the errors I had and problems are already answered ( thanx to this community )
As this is my first post, I have detailly described myself.

I just turned 17, used linux from like 15, when windows 10 was too much for my shitty old laptop and thinking of using windows 7 was like a nightmare, then I discovered something called linux exists. used Ubuntu at first, switched within months to Mint, and linux mint felt great but suddenly it became slow, idk why, so instead of re-installing it, I went for Zorin OS, it was cool but switched again to Deepin, which was wayy beautiful but as you know, I wanted to CUSTOMIZE that feeling, then finally, I moved to Arch Linux. What a pleasure to have an OS where you can design everything !

I used dwm at first, It was cool as I know to code in C ( not professionally but I can understand very much everything )
But that didn't turn out too well, emojis weren't working in dwmblocks, so I searched for a more nice one, I didn't want to install KDE or Gnome or anything like that because they always take up too much resources ( My laptop is shitty anyways ).

I went from coding in QB64 to C then C++ and python ( Yes, I learned C & C++ wayy before python )
And then I found myself liking visual stuff ( for instance, I made a paint program completely in scratch in QB64, yes it was shitty but I could draw shapes, freehand and save / load from a bmp file, png was not supported as much as I remember ), so I moved to creating web pages with HTML, CSS & JS.
Also I didn't really know what to do and programming was just a hobby.
So I tried everything, including Assembly, C, C++, C#, Python, Unity ( didn't really work on my shitty laptop ), Java, Android Studio, Kotlin, Lua at some point too, Flutter, HTML, CSS, Js, NodeJS, React, etc. etc

and now I want to become a front-end developer because of my passion in programming and good visual stuff. I also looked in graphics programming but it was wayyy tooooo much complicated and I just wanted to design some good stuff with my programming passion.

I still have a long way to go, I am currently building projects with React, NextJS, ReactNative, and hope that after some time ( preferably 8-9 months ), I can build good projects with a nice portfolio with my own design and hopefully get a job or smth ( I need to get a job when I turn 18, my family condition isn't that great )

and I know that I possibly cannot be job ready with this shitty laptop, so I'll be upgrading to a much better PC but only when I'm confident enough that  I can do this.

I am so proud to be using linux from Nepal. If you don't know that country's name, It's the country with the highest mountains and EPIC nature.
But comes at a cost of bad politics and illiteracy. ( I am also not that good in english btw, so apologies for any errors  )
