Re: The Official Hello Everyone Thread

Hello there,

This is CoolEagel, and I've been using Arch Linux for several months, and Arch Wiki helps me a lot.

From now on, I will read this forum at the same time. and hope I could do something for this forum.

Thanks.

Re: The Official Hello Everyone Thread

Hello. Am known as Munsterlandr (y'all ain't getting my real name). I did the switch to arch recently (like at most a month ago), but I've used linux for my main OS since like 2019. I've mostly used ubuntu or debian based distros before, but I've been liking how much more DIY this is.

tbh i registered just to see about getting help with some problems; hopefully, though, i'll be able to help out someone who ends up in my shoes.

Re: The Official Hello Everyone Thread

Hi. I'm an ERP dev with more experience than I care to admit while being a "noob" here. I am familiar with working with Linux as it is part of the job, but the nature of my work and PC gaming always had me favoring Windows for my daily driver.

I am self taught, so I never got a proper *nix education, but I know enough to be dangerous. Everything I do know has been gathered by incidental interaction either through SSH to servers or IoT devices. However, I have always been a bit ashamed by my general ignorance of Linux based systems.

So, about a year ago, I decided to fix that by switching my home lab servers from auto-installed Ubuntu to manually installed Arch. I learn by doing and I choose Arch because the label on the box said "DIY". I have not been disappointed.

What I did not expect was to like it this much. I prefer my devices to be serviceable when needed and not to be fussing with them too much. I thought I may move onto a more self-managed distro after I felt confident enough in my knowledge, but the journey thus far has unlocked a perspective that has invalidated that position. Arch doesn't really require much attention if you know what you're doing and if something IS tedious, there's about 100 ways to automate it, not to mention, I could automate it myself for fun.

Instead, about a month ago, I setup a daily driver using an old Surface Laptop 2 because of course I did. Was actually easier than expected since most of the linux-surface project's work is upstream now and my device was addressed years ago.

Anywho, I feel like I am only 10% up a mountain here, even with the head start of having some experience, so I will just lurk and learn stuff for now. I don't think I have much to contribute at this time. I hope to be of use sometime in the near future though.

Finally, my appreciation for what the Arch community does here cannot be overstated. Thank you all.

Re: The Official Hello Everyone Thread

Hello! Finally installed arch after getting fed up with Microsoft's AI shenanigans. First time trying to install arch was about a decade ago in high school. I failed miserably lol. After another decade of using various Debian based distributions on and off, I finally decided to try out Arch again. It's funny how 10 years of troubleshooting various Linux issues on other distributions makes you much better prepared to do the full arch installation. Happy to be on this distro finally, and looking forward to learning, fixing, and tinkering with the rest of the community.

Re: The Official Hello Everyone Thread

I've used arch off and on for a couple of years.. Archinstall is awesome i can't belive it actually exist.. i can install arch in 5 mins or 6 and have a fully working system.. I got a l440 from ebay for $60 bucks and everything works flawless on openbsd and freebsd but i realized it was really struggling.. Went on a quest for a distro and realized that arch is bare bones so here we are tongue

Hello everyone! I've been using Arch for a couple weeks and it has been the best experience I've ever had on Linux. Should have tried it sooner.

Re: The Official Hello Everyone Thread

Hi everyone!
Been lurking for a couple months after an impulsive jump from Linux Mint lol. I have no Linux experience beyond that and what I've learned since, but the process has been freeing (I've broken my system twice now). Salute to my neurodivergent friends, we are siblings in an insane world.  o7

Happy to be here, hopeful to contribute more someday!

Using nixos right now (totally not due to an rm -rf oopsie on ubuntu X3) but we might switch to arch for some funzies

Just around to have some fun and learn how to truly love my computer!

Re: The Official Hello Everyone Thread

Hello,

I started using Arch a few days ago because I wanted to learn how to use Linux, and drowning a few times seemed like a viable option.

So far I'm enjoying it. I learned a lot of stuff and I am convinced that Linux is the superior OS, but there are a few problems that I couldn't solve by re-reading the wiki 5 times over so I ended up here.

I am not planning to stop using Linux anytime soon, so I might as well make myself comfortable in this community.

P.S. As a teenager I had a fetish for naming my accounts after the latest CW Flash villains, hence my name belongs to the last bearable Flash villain. It was intentionally written with mistakes, the same way it sounded in the Russian dub.

Grettings to one and all from somewhere on the west coast.

I've been experimenting with linux, on and off, since the early 2000s when I found out about Red Hat.

I don't really know why it took me so long to get to Arch, but here I am. Just a random old dude letting his Linux freak-flag fly.

Re: The Official Hello Everyone Thread

Hello every Arch Linux users,

I only started using it for trying out flatpak apps, it is also because i am going to use linux for the first time (I also used Kail Linux but this is off-topic)

Because of this, i installed your Arch Linux on a VM (VirtualBox) and tried installing it (without archinstall) and it worked (No secure boot or TPM support btw)

Btw the Host OS was Windows 10

This message is made thru the Host OS

Might aswell later try installing Arch Linux on bare metal

As far as so, I am enjoying Arch Linux, now before i installed Arch Linux, i installed Ubuntu but it is not my taste or my tastebuds, so I installed Arch Linux instead and its great!

It is because Arch Linux is lighter and thus, unlike Ubuntu, it can save a older laptop's life

This is why i am here, I do not plan to stop using this Distro for nothing, so might as well create a Arch Linux Forum Account

If i do need help or i am just chatting then i am online in this forum

That's the end of the message.
