Hey yall. I'm still pretty new to Arch but I'm learning a LOT (mostly from the ArchWiki lol). I've been observing its behaviors from afar for a few months in a VM, and Ive found that it's actually so simple yet ridiculously powerful. I absolutely love how it takes a DIY approach to operating systems and lets you configure it according to your needs.
I'll be migrating to Arch Linux after Microsoft takes Windows 10 out back and kills it. I was going to choose an "easier" distro (like linux Mint or smth), but I saw the simplicity and DIY aspect of Arch Linux... and I fell in love.
Future me will never be able to get back all the time i'll probably spend configuring Arch, breaking something, figuring out how to fix it, breaking something else, somehow managing to rm -rf /* myself and having to start all over, refusing to learn from my mistakes and doing it all over again, ultimately giving up and leaving for a distro with a R/O system, then finding that too boring, potentially going insane and returning to Arch Linux, and staying this time because I finally got it set up properly and I'm sick of reconfiguring my OS for the trillionth time. Will I have regrets? Maybe. I don't know. Only time will tell...
In the meantime, I leave you with this:
public class HelloWorld {
public static void main(String... args) {
System.out.println("Hello, World!");
System.out.println(ArchIsTheBest.archIsTheBest());
}
}
class ArchIsTheBest {
static String archIsTheBest(String... args) {
return "Arch is the best!";
}
}
Save as HelloWorld.java and run with the command:
java HelloWorld.java
I'm here, because Microsoft is destroying the last Windows version with any kind of redeeming quality (Windows 10).
Also because of Windows package management, or rather the lack thereof. (Seriously, why are there NO standards whatsoever on Windows?)

MODERATOR EDIT
Hello everyone : D. I am writing from Russia. I am also a newbie in arch linux, and in Linux in general, not when I used it, only vinda : h. I decided to start my way at once with not an easy task, for half a year in princetsepe mastered, heavy, but I'm not going to go to Windows. I'm a C# programmer, I create games and separate programs on Windows, but I just started my way, I decided that I'd better make programs on Linux, as the demand is greater and I hope many people will help me with advice.

Welcome to archlinux.
Disliking systemd intensely, but not satisfied with alternatives so focusing on taming systemd.

Hey all!
Been running arch on my home PC for about 3~4 months.
It's been working much better for me than other distro's I've used before, in part due to the excellent documentation. I also feel like I have a better understanding of my system, and it's nice to get away from unnecessary bloat (which I why I finally switched back to Linux from windows, barring serious privacy concerns w/ Windows 10/11).
Just set up my home server (an old Optiplex) running arch as well, I'll be migrating Jellyfin and other services to it slowly when I have time.

Started playing with Arch in January of this year. Registered for forums today. Played with Red Hat Enterprise Linux in 2010. Took a 13 year break from Linux and now I'm back and I'm not leaving this time. 90% done with Microsoft. I have little to no clue what I'm doing but i did manage to figure out the gatekeeping question at the end of forums registration. Thank you DeepSeek and ChatGPT. Love you all.

Hello Everyone,
Although I have been using Arch as main system on personal hardware for a few years now, I am very new to the forum, so I guess this is the right place to say hi.
By the way, as it is my first time writing anything here, I would really like to express my gratitude to everyone who has contributed to making Arch so pleasant to use since before my first install. Maintainers, contributors, documenters, posters and more... Thank you!
Looking forward to future exchanges!

Hey folks, I have used Arch previously (back when I first started in Linux circa 4 years ago) through Manjaro and EndeavourOS. I have played with Vanilla Arch before but as of yesterday, I have installed Arch on my laptop and plan on using it for the foreseeable future. The Arch Wiki has always been a huge help to me even when using other distros; it's so full of useful information.
Hopefully, I won't have any issues, but if I do, I know that I can always come here for support.

Hi everyone,
I've been using arch on and off for a bit now, but decided to make an account here for funsies.
I switched to linux from windows around two years ago, but realized somewhere along the way that the best way to gain a better understanding of linux is likely to use something like arch and stick to it. I'm also glad to have an account here now since being a forum member will likely incentivize consistent learning. It seems much easier to stick with an interest when you have social interactions based around it.
Anywho

Hello everybody! After a few weeks on Manjaro, I decided that with my new laptop I'd go with the pure Arch experience. It is taking me some time to make everything work but I have the impression I'm learning a lot about how the system works. And the Arch Wiki and the Forum are always very helpful. Cheers.

Hi everyone,
Ive been using the system for about 3 years now and I really like this operating system.
At first I followed an online video series from Jay at learnlinuxtv.com - really excellent step by step instructions for an absolute novice.
Then I used a combination of the official installation guide and the arch wiki for my system builds.
Finally I found this complete setup guide with full disk encryption, BTRFS snapshots, and UKI based secure boot.
None of my co-workers at the restaurant know what linux is, and its honestly way easier and more chill not to bring it up. But I'm still really passionate about this system and its complete flexibility. What a great way to really learn the details of an operating system!

'Allo! I've finally reached the 'counting the months until retired' stage, so it's time to start figuring out what I want to do because I want to instead of because I have to. I've been banging around computers and programming since forever. IBM OS/MVT, IBM OS/MVS, Cray Operating System (COS), AT&T SYSV Unix, SunOS and then Solaris, IRIX, and as a hobby, Linux when it appeared. That was all ages ago but oh boy do I miss programming. I've always said that I was a pretty wierd person - I work on computers all day and play with them all night, now it's time to play on them all day and dream about them at night . So I'm here to dive back into Linux, refresh my programming skills, and once I'm finally swimming instead of drowning, find a worth open source project that I can contribute to.
Fingers crossed this all works out!

I finally switched over to arch.
I've been using Ubuntu for years, but recently I got a new Laptop and with the semester in full swing I didn't find the time to switch over to Ubuntu. Thank the gods I didn't because now I have to work with ROOT which only really works well integrated on arch. I feel like I'll be here a while

Hello fellow arch Linux user's! It's great to be a part of the community! My name is Nathan, I'm from the small town of Labrador city, NL, Canada! I've been a Linux user since about 2020 I started on Ubuntu like many others and then made the switch to Arch as my daily driver around 2022 I love Arch because of its customization and speed! It's such a lightweight system and my computer has not run better! Anyway, lol great to be here!

Hello!
First post -just saying hi. I'm enjoying Arch. I actually have two machines on Arch and running for months with no issues.
If I have a question or issue to solve, I'll follow these steps:
1. Think through the problem and read information in the forums.
2. Think again, and read again.
3. If posting a question, or requesting help provide relevant, accurate, and actionable details. Be specific and include all information needed to diagnose the issue.
Cheers-

Hello
Long time Linux Mint & Debian user here, looking forward to dive into Arch and get a deeper understanding of linux and of my computer. I will begin my arch install as soon as my "new" t480s thinkpad arrives.
