Hi!
I am a SC student, part time developer and a researcher in institute of electronics and computer science so computers are a great deal in my life and I absolutely love GNU/linux and all the FLOSS world and think that Archlinux is one of its gems. I migrated to linux (Ubuntu) just under a year ago so I am a recent convert. And now I am migrating to the Archlinux in search of an lightweight and clean system.
Thank you all for making this wonderful learning recourse! Since I found out about Archlinux, you have helped me a lot.

Hello!
I'm 28 from kentucky. Started using linux a few years ago briefly and got a bit overwhelmed with it (my stupidity tried to learn from gentoo from the get go lol), now with work i work in a mixed environment and want to learn some more about linux. Currently trying to break my old windows habbits lol. I have centos 6 installed as of last week on my server with samba, and now on my main desktop i'm wanting to use arch as a dual boot option as something to play around with for everyday use. Look foward to getting to know the community and learn more about linux.

As you probably already know, arch isn't the easiest of distro's either. But if you follow the excellent wiki, you won't have any problems, and in case you still do, you can ask for help at the forums, mailing list, or irc channel (Just make sure you aren't asking common questions by doing a quick internet search for the problem).
And Welcome to the forums

Hello everyone,
I've done a lot of distro hopping, as well as using Ubuntu for over the past year. working from command line, apt-get etc ... doing things the "Debian Way". Minimal installs then going through hell to get gnome 3 to work on Ubuntu 11.04(did get it working) Then I came across ARCH. I must say, I'm VERY impressed! Forums/wiki wonderful! I've installed and configure Arch to my liking. What have I been missing out on. I don't think I will be going back to Ubuntu. the "Arch Way" for me.
Just another person doing things the "Arch Way".

Hi All,
Just want to say "hello" to everyone and I'm extremely impressed with this distro!
I've got to say a big thanks to all those involved with the wiki as I've never come across one so comprehensive and easy to use.
I've been running Arch now for the past 3 weeks and decided I've found my home!
It's been a long road to get here, starting with Suse 7.1 too many years ago to remember before leaving Linux and coming back to Ubuntu awhile later. There's been quite a bit of distro hopping in the meantime without finding a distro that really suited me. I eventually took the plunge with Arch once I felt my skills were sufficient, and I've got to say, with the help of the wiki it's been plain sailing since the install.
Anyway that's enough of me rambling and a big thanks to all those involved!

Hi!
I've been using Linux since I was a kid, and Arch for some years (5 or so), so I’m not a newbie. Some of you may already seen me on AUR. I found the only distro that matches my spirit without being a continuous headache (yes, I gave Gentoo a try in the past).
Lately I've been thinking about involving into the project a bit more. So I came to the forums, saw this thread and...here I am.
Hello! : D

Ahoy, Archfolk. I've been using Arch (in a fullscreened VM) for a week or so now, and have really been enjoying it. I started my foray into Linux with Ubuntu a few years ago. After getting comfortable with the basics, I decided I wanted to learn more of what was going on behind the GUI and eventually decided to try some less-hand-holding distros. I played with #! for a bit, then heard about Arch (I honestly don't remember how) and decided to give it a whirl. I've enjoyed building up from the basics and am currently using Openbox as my window manager and urxvt for my main terminal (the lack of pasting is currently a problem, as I have a touchpad and no middle-click). I used LXDE for a bit, but decided to "downgrade" to solely Openbox for that nice minimalistic feel.
I have to say I'm thoroughly impressed by the Arch wiki, and the community seems pretty helpful and supportive from what I've seen so far. Looking forward to continued Arching with you all, and I hope my "newbish" queries around here don't frustrate or annoy too badly.

Hey all. I've been a long time Slackware user. Tried Arch on recommendation, liked it, started using it regulary and kept a copy of Slack on other computer ( ) But gradually Arch became no 1. and Slack no 2. (I still keep it around). I've been using Linux for something more than 10 years and haven't switch much between distros. Once in couple of years, But eventually always got back to Slack. Well, Arch shares some of the same philosophy of simplicity, so I very quickly got used to it. I still find it hard sometimes to get used to rolling release system, but generally I like Arch.
Well, see you around.

Howdy folks,
I'm from the Dominican Republic. I've been a ubuntu user for quite some time but one day a dark professor made me install w7 in order to use .NET .Then another one made me use Microsoft's XNA! So i was stuck in windows for about 8 months(Fall and Spring semester). In order to redeem my soul i decided to install a distro that required more of myself thus I chose Arch!!! And that is how they say, is that.

Hey all.
I'm a student from the UK, finally took the dive and switched from debian to arch. Been jumping around distros for quite a while, maybe this one might stick with me for a while.

Hello,
Ditto - student from the UK. Just installed Arch a few days ago... usually a Mac user. (But before I was a Mac user, I was a Gentoo user.)

Maybe gentoo exhausted him so much, that he had to rejuvenate himself with an apple

Hi Y'all,
This is Nachiket from India. I'm very excited to try Arch. I have been a Linux user for a while now. I have Ubuntu installed currently on my machine and now want to try out Arch simply because I have time and Ubuntu doesn't really seem that challenging . I also kind of liked the Arch Way philosophy and now fan of it! I don't tinker much around with the files, mostly a GUI user (got to blame windows). That is again one of the reasons why I want to try a challenging distro like Arch.
Hoping to have a good time here!
Thanks,
Nachiket.

Hi everyone
I've been using Linux for around six or seven years. About half of that time was spent with Ubuntu, but I got increasingly disillusioned with both it and its parent company Canonical. As a result I started distro-hopping for a while. I came to the conclusion that bleeding-edge software no longer impressed me enough to put up with constant bugs so I settled on Debian and stuck resolutely to the stable repositories.
But you know what? Even Debian stable has its bugs, and I started getting really annoyed. The straw that broke the camel's back was, very recently, when I encountered a bug in Akonadi. Like a good little boy, I (jumped through LOTS of hoops that were VERY POORLY EXPLAINED and...) submitted my bug report. Then I was told that I was running an "extremely old" version and would I please upgrade? Hmph!
So in the end, I decided that if there are going to be bugs no matter what distro I use, I may as well use a bleeding-edge system after all! So I thought I'd give Arch a try and, after a few false starts (bet I'm not the first!), here I am!
Hullo!

HI Everybody!
I'm James, I'm an Aussie who lives in Thailand and I've just started using Arch in a VM. I've been a Debian guy for quite a few years and whilst it is rock solid and I swear by it for a server environment as well as being used in a office environment, I am seriously considering making the change to Arch. As I said, I really like Debian but it's time for a new challenge. Yes, this goes against the ethos of the FAQ "Why would I not want to use Arch? - You are happy with your current OS" BUT installing and getting a usable environment from scratch gives me hours and hours of fun time away from doing "real work" and gives you something a little more personal.
Hopefully I stick it out, and if I do, you'll be hearing lots of useless babble from me!
Also, a bit of shitty info for you; using the Arch Netinst led me to a heap of problems and I couldn't boot? I have the feeling grub was pointing to the old naming of vmlinuz or something? I kept getting Error 15, file not found? Has it changed since Kernel 3.0? I installed the whole cd image and all went well after trying 2 or 3 times with the Netinst.

There are many threads about this problem on the forums. Also, read the news on the main page http://www.archlinux.org/news/changes-t … filenames/
New installation images are being tested, so a new "release" is coming hopefully soon.

Hello from the southern U.S., everyone. I've spent the past week setting everything up as I wanted on this laptop, and am finally satisfied (I, too, had a lot of trouble with the installation media.) I have to say that I absolutely loathe GNOME 3, but the fallback mode helps (but that's hardly an Arch issue anyway). Pacman is quite convenient, and I like the "rolling release" concept. Anyway, I look forward to messing around with this some more.

Awesome. Sorry about my ignorance and not reading the forums! It didn't cause me too many problems, just shinfo really! And I did see on the front page just now! *slaps forehead*

Hi all,
I'm Sander, I'm a Linux user since 2008, but I only used Ubuntu based distros and an occasional lightweight distro to get an old computer back to life. Currently I'm studying Math in the University of Leuven (KUL). I'm a gnome users (always used Gnome2 and now I like Gnome-Shell), so when Ubuntu stopped the vanilla Gnome support, I searched for other things. I tried Fedora, but it didn't work out. Now I arrived here, and I like it. I like the huge amount of very recent packages and the good documentation.
I hope I can contribute here as I contribute in the Ubuntu Forums, but I think I will stay active in the Ubuntu forums too because they have a huge amount of newbies who need help that I can give.
Groeten,
Sander

Hello,
I just installed Arch with Gnome 3...not too bad with G3, although I really liked the old Gnome. I will get used to it. In the mean time, I am going to try openbox with crunchbang after I get everything ready to rock. I feel really accomplished to have installed this distro. I am wearing a big smile right now. I have used (in order) Suse, Fedora, Mepis, Mandriva and Ubuntu over the last 6 years. I used to dual boot with the big bad W until about a year ago. I am very excited about learning the Arch way. By the way, there is some really good documentation out there....wow! I chose this distro over Slack because of pacman's dependancy sorting. Gentoo looked a bit too hard for me right now.
Nice to meet you all!

Hello Everyone!
My name is Silvio, I am an Italian living in Estonia.
I have an Eee PC 701, where I have replaced Xandros with Arch. I will use it to experiment with the distro, which is incredibly compact: a bit more than 3GB with OpenBox, LXDE, GCC, LaTeX, CUPS, and some more not-exactly-light software The goal should be to have a small, complete, and expendable computer to keep contacts while on vacation.
Best wishes to all!
