After a few weeks with Arch in last october, I decides to make my come back two weeks ago... with the wishes of contributing.

Hi everybody. I've been an Ubuntu user for a couple of years but in the search for speed I've made the leap to Arch. Wow. Ultra-light and 100% configured by me. I really shouldn't feel so proud of myself but I've learned more from 3 days of Arch than a full year of Ubuntu. Thanks guys!

Tried RH 14 years ago then went over to OSX. I see that true computing freedom means much more ability to work with my machine. I see trends in the future that are very grim. Two years ago over to Linux. One yr on LinuxMint, one on Debian. Two weeks now on Arch. Still have many things to get working but solving one by one. The hands-on school is irreplaceable. Also much to appreciate in the Arch documentation. I am determined to get it. Have learned more in the pat two weeks than past two years.

Hi From Finland!

I tried Linux first in 2001. I started with Red Hat (there was no Fedora). Then I tried at least debian, suse, (X,K)ubuntu, gentoo, LFS, fedora, Mint, Mandriva, Sabayon, Ultimate. Now I've used ArchLinux for 2 years and am still loving it!
My dream world would be 5 distros targeted at different audiences, all using Pacman and the KISS. Pacman is so fast and so is the whole distro. Arch is up to date and yet stable.

I created this forum account just to say Thank you! because a thread in the Arch Linux Forums solved the worst problem I had since I fist installed Arch Linux a few months ago. Rather than bumping that thread, which hasn't been touched for a couple of days, I'm posting here as it seems more appropriate.

So thanks to all who contribute(d) to the Arch Linux distribution, wiki and forums!

Hello everyone!

I created a new account just in case if something bad and un-google-able thing happens, but I never had any issues with Arch Linux. This is a great distro that I use everyday for c++ hobby and enjoyment, and I mention it for whoever whenever/wherever needs a new linux-based OS that runs fast enough and has the favorite DM/WM of choice...

Hello from Maryland, USA. I've recently installed Arch on both my generic Compaq desktop and tiny Acer Ferrari One "laptop", and I am thoroughly impressed. I had installed it a few months back on the desktop, but I had mistakenly dl-ed the 32 bit iso, so I eventually wiped it for another distro. This time I did it right... first on the laptop and then on the desktop (after syncing the pacman caches to save bandwidth).

It's the first distro I've tried in which the open source ati and nouveau drivers work well enough to keep, and I've tried 'em all (25 distros currently installed and up to date). I'm kinda bored now because after less than 24 hours, EVERYTHING is working flawlessly and to my exact liking! Definitely my fave distro now after months of Debian sid and wheezy.

I guess people everywhere reflect yourself, and how you meet them. So you must be a nice person! If you take happiness, peace and wealth as a measurement, Finland is a good country, as are most of the northern countries including Canada. One downside is that people live in walled gardens with windows but no doors... :-D

It's been said that if you install Ubuntu, you learn Ubuntu. If you install Mandriva, you learn Mandriva. But if you install Arch or Gentoo, you learn Linux.
So I've wandered over after spending ~5 years on newb distros, and hope to get more intimately familiar with what's under the hood as I know it'll help me everywhere else.
And of course, I've got quite a few questions already...

Hi all, I'm new here and to arch as well, struggling to get stuff working now:) (HP6510b, C2D, Intel965, intel gma x3100; installation went perfectly until I updated everything via "pacman -Syu". At that point I can type - the console works ("ls /" makes the hdd led go beserk for a brief moment), but the display stays pitch black and empty - no console whatsoever, not even a blinking cursor, just big black nothing). I upgraded the system from a pretty old core-install (2011/08), as I had no disk to write the new image to. So, I had to remove /etc/profile.d/locale.sh and install filesystem separately with "pacman -S filesystem --force".

Do you guys know the solution to this or can you point me to the appropriate forum section/rtfm link?:)

p.s. Please note I'm fairly new to Linux, but I can follow tutorials fine and am eager to learn things;)

This should really go in a separate thread with an appropriate title. That way people can find it better and help you out. This thread is a fun thread for introductions.

Hello guys, I'm also new to Arch. Liking it so much so far. I came from Ubuntu, Mint, Fedora and Debian. I'm still dual booting Debian Testing with Arch and hoping to embrace myself with Arch 100% soon. Thanks for the great distro and community!

Hi everyone.

That's my story about how I ended up here:
I decided one day that it was time to reinstall Windows 7, but for some reason I couldn't get it to work anymore. There was no way I was going back to XP. I had an Ubuntu CD laying around and I thought I'd give it a try. And I really liked it. It had most of the programs I needed and I didn't miss Windows almost at all. By the time I got a new PC, I had started to like Ubuntu so much that I didn't want to go back to Windows anymore.
I had been using Ubuntu for almost about a year, and then Unity happened. I didn't like it at all (and it has big usability issues), but I still used it, because I couldn't find a better replacement, and I kind of liked it's overall look. Then they introduced the HUD app menu. I thought that it was the stupidest thing I had ever heard. Again I started thinking about moving. And that's when I thought about trying out Arch. Now I've been using Arch for couple of weeks and I love it.

Hello all, i am a new user of Archlinux

will soon be migrating to Arch from Xubuntu 11.10, been using *buntu distro since Warty Warthog & have recently began to get tired of the way that distro has changed to something i no longer see as a joy to use & more of an endless battle of re-configuration after an update.

So i have decided to come to Arch as i find myself referencing your forums for the past god know's how long lol & would like to swim out to the deeper end of Linux computing & essentially begin to do things properly & be up to date as well.

So i hope y'all don't get miffed with my post's in the forum & hope to converse with most of you once i get installed.
Speaking of which i am currently running through a basic install within vmware player to 'get to know' Arch a bit more & hope to make the move to Arch very soon

just wanna say hello to everyone and thanks for having me here I'm absolutely new to archlinux and I've used ubuntu for a bit and many other debian based distros and I didn't get comftorable with them. so I figured ill stop being scared of Linux and just get my hands dirty and so far I'm new as heck but inlove with arch and I'm glad to be here and glad I chose this distro.once again thank you for haveing me here.
