Re: Pacman 3 Update

cd $HOME
mkdir TESTING; cd TESTING;
wget ftp://ftp.archlinux.org/testing/os/i686/pacman-3.0.3-1.pkg.tar.gz
wget ftp://ftp.archlinux.org/current/os/i686/libdownload-1.1-1.pkg.tar.gz
wget ftp://ftp.archlinux.org/current/os/i686/libarchive-1.3.1-2.pkg.tar.gz
tar -xzf pacman-3.0.3-1.pkg.tar.gz
usr/bin/pacman.static -U libarchive-1.3.1-2.pkg.tar.gz
usr/bin/pacman.static -U libdownload-1.1-1.pkg.tar.gz
usr/bin/pacman.static -U pacman-3.0.3-1.pkg.tar.gz
chmod 755 /usr/man/man3 /usr/man/man5 /usr/man/man8
cd $HOME
rm -rf TESTING

That should work. Let me know if it doesn't.

Re: Pacman 3 Update

Whew.  Thank you so much for the help. big_smile  I am back up to speed and the man pages work normally.  Now if I could only figure out the problem with the kdemod repo. wink

The individual suggested that perhaps it is a problem with my database, but having gone (in error) though this pacman reinstall business... can I discount the problem being on my end?

Re: Pacman 3 Update

I don't use kde, but certainly your man page permission issue would seem an unlikely cause of any issues with any other packages.
I don't use kde, so I don't know anything about those packages. Hopefully someone else can assist with that.

Since this thread is about the pacman permission issues on the man directory, I suggest you create a new forum topic for your other issue.

Re: Pacman 3 Update

Not sure how those man page permissions got messed up in the first place in that 3.0.1 package. 3.0.3 seems to be fine. I'll blame it on autotools...

exactly what I was thinking.  If 3.0.3 is fine, I'd recommend you all upgrade pacman if using the 3.X series.

Re: Pacman 3 Update

any idea about my original post?
whats the problem if there is one with:

when i update my system with pacman -Syu i get

warning: audacious-plugins-1.3.3-1: ignoring package upgrade (1.3.3-1)

which seems to me to be the same version, only difference is that the installed one was built by me.

the problem appeared even tho it was a new installation so i hadnt ever installed 3.0.1 ... just 2.9.8.4 -> 3.0.3

Unfortunately, the problem with the man directory permissions is present in pacman 3.0.3, which is the current version in the testing repo.

I thought someone said it was 3.0.1 with the problem.

Meh, I will rebuild a -2 package tonight.  Sorry for the delay.

Re: Pacman 3 Update

3.0.3-2 is out which is just a rebuild with valid permissions - let me know if that works ok.
