@trx: are you using any special version of Xorg? (testing?)
I get a black rectangle behind the cairo-clock i just installed and that's what i got from their site.
In Linux there are no secrets!

Have you got a composite manager running (like beryl, compiz, xcompmgr) ? I think cairo-clock needs one.

Been experimenting with Openbox for a couple of days. My final configuration that I'm fairly satisfied with is Openbox with xfce4-panel. Just the panel. Whatelse would one want?

I had to modify the X config to load that extension, because compiz/xcompmgr would say: No composite extension.
And here it is :

I'm not sure, but I think that a feature of compiz that can display viewports like that...
