Re: Compiz Fusion Repository

Is there anything that can be done about the x86_64 repo, like providing nesl247 ssh access to a 64 bit build machine? I would love to see the x86_64 repo brought to the same level as the i686 repo.

The x86_64 repo has been borked for awhile now. Just download the PKGBUILDs and do a makepkg. It's pretty easy and last time I did it no changes had to be made.

I didn't even think about using the PKGBUILD, I had just figured it was completely missing:p

Re: Compiz Fusion Repository

If you download the PKGBUILD's please download them from the i686 repo, no idea when the x86_64 were copied over.

Re: Compiz Fusion Repository

I'm sure you could just build the packages and provide them to nesl247. Also, I think you should contact the person that used to update the x86_64 repo. That person may just be too busy to build packages regularly.

Re: Compiz Fusion Repository

Nesl247, is there a script you use to automate the building process, or do you rebuild everything one package at a time?
If there was some script I could run once or twice a week to update the packages, I would be glad to build and provide the 64 bit packages to nesl247.

Re: Compiz Fusion Repository

I have an automated script that builds it all. Of course one still has to monitor the build process. By that I just mean check in on it every once in a while to see if the process failed or not (build fails if any package fails to build). However it does have continue support.

If you want to build the packages, please contact me on irc. I'd need to give you a detailed method of how to use it and what you need for it.

Re: Compiz Fusion Repository

Fixed. Sorry about that, was trying to get paul2lv setup to build 64bit packages, and ended up putting bad perms on the dir.

Re: Compiz Fusion Repository

Finally got it up and running, ran into only a few problems which are:

fusion-icon's ICON was missing [fixed after rebuild using nesl's 1686 PKGBUILDs]
emerald demands a restart every time a theme is changed [odd, and unfixed]
windows have a lot of tearing when being moved. [no idea, suggestions?]
compiz-fusion-plugins-3d-git fails to compile on 3d.lo
using ati x1900 with fglrx and Xgl

If you are ever able to build and maintain the 64bit packages we'd greatly appreciate it nesl big_smile

Re: Compiz Fusion Repository

Is anyone else experiencing issues with the xf86-video-ati driver in testing (6.7.192) while running compiz-fusion? My machine freezes and I have to revert to the old ati package.

Yea I've been experiencing numerous issues with Compiz Fusion recently. Everything was perfectly stable around the time of the official Compiz 0.5.2 release, but after a series of updates I now experience quite a few bizarre glitches. I haven't been able to narrow down the source of the problems. I was thinking of reverting packages back to around August 12th which is when I was definitely last stable, but I haven't gotten around to it, although I did try downgrading a few packages. Rolling back to the previous xf86 driver did not solve my issues, for now I have to take a break from using CF.

As nesl247 said, I'll be trying to keep the 64 bit side of his repo up to date. If you have any problems, post them in this thread or talk to nesl247 or me on IRC.

Re: Compiz Fusion Repository

Ummm, I hate to sound completely naive, but... I've been sorting through the posts in this thread and I don't see any clear instructions of exactly what we should be installing.  I've had a look at the Compiz Fusion wiki and of course it doesn't mention this custom repo at all.  Furthermore, after adding this repo and trying to grab the packages mentioned in the wiki, I get conflicts such as this:

pacman -S compiz-git libcompizconfig-git compizconfig-python-git ccsm-git fusion-icon-git compiz-fusion-plugins-main compiz-fusion-plugins-extra
resolving dependencies... done.
looking for inter-conflicts...
error: unresolvable package conflicts detected
error: failed to prepare transaction (conflicting dependencies)
:: compiz-git: conflicts with compiz

I don't have compiz or compiz-core installed...so it would seem that one of the packages is conflicting with itself.  I've tried Beryl in the past (no longer installed) and I'd like to give the new Fusion project a try for my GNOME (ati) desktop, but I don't know how to proceed from here.  Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Compiz Fusion Repository

Ah ha!  How simple is that?! LOL  Did I miss an obvious post somewhere?  I can update the wiki with a brief section on using your repo if you think it'd be more beneficial...

Re: Compiz Fusion Repository

The testing repo is now required for the git packages, and libx11-xcb is no more. So please remove it and reinstall libx11 from testing (just pacman -Rd libx11-xcb && pacman -S libx11). This will fix the issue when people use the testing repo and find that they do not have any of their menus anymore.

Re: Compiz Fusion Repository

Thanks for the advice nesl247, and I'll be glad to update the wiki with step-by-step instructions once I get this figured out myself.  However, I can't seem to grab the libx11 package from the testing repo.  I've uncommented Include = /etc/pacman.d/testing from /etc/pacman.conf and made sure a server was active in the testing file, however pacman seems to think the most current version available is in the current repo. I also tested it with the arch repo (ftp.archlinux.org/testing/os/i686) in case the mirrors weren't synced, but the outcome is the same.

UPDATE: Nevermind... I got it working..my bad.

Re: Compiz Fusion Repository

hey guys,
I enabled nesl's compiz-fusion repo and installed libx11 from testing.. now I get this error

pacman -Sy compiz-fusion-git

error: unresolvable package conflicts detected
error: failed to prepare transaction (conflicting dependencies)
:: libx11-xcb: conflicts with libx11

now I try to remove libx11-xcb but I get another error smile

pacman -Rd libx11-xcb
error: failed to add target 'libx11-xcb' (could not find or read package)

any ideas?
