Maybe this was a bit missleading, but I meant "I finished the school".

This is the strength of this concept: you can make (slight) changes and everyone 'll see it is still the same.

I like the one with two arches better, but varaiations like these can be made for special purposes. This one, with a lightning/electricity/power-variation could e.g. be used for Arch-with-suspend-capabilities.

Zl.

Re: Arch Linux logo concept

Romashka pointed this out to me:

http://www.elfenbeinturm.cc/downloads/a … ogo_09.png

I like it a LOT. It's the color, I guess. The think arc is white, which makes it look a whole lot better, IMHO.

I think it's by finferflu. Not original, as usual wink, but nice, very nice.

Oh, and I always liked the font. What's that? Is it free? (as in freedom)

Aw, come on, Asics is the way to go. It even has A in it. smile

The spiral can even be intentionally mistaken for an arch with a little strech of imagination.... Can you see it? It's right there.... No there... There!

No, it's made by freigeist.

I might as well quote from the thread mention above:

Re: Arch Linux logo concept

Sorry to both. smile

Too bad for the font... We need something at least freeware if not free. The reason I insist on fonts being free is that I usually need to add some chars in order to localize some artwork in, say, Serbian.

Re: Arch Linux logo concept

I still have to make a serious attempt for a logo, I just need time, and a non-crashing version of Inkscape -.-

Re: Arch Linux logo concept

I don't care for the typeface much, but Space Age is a free font (for personal use).  You can download it straight from that link.

You should. Really. Or you want someone to actually sue us (artists) and prevent of use of artwork (by Arch community)? sad

Creating a logo for the Arch project isn't exactly in the personal use domain. It has nothing to do with the ability to download the file, it's the license.

I was referring to the Space Age typeface itself... I don't like it.

Here's a list I put together earlier this week, showing the top 50 linux distributions (according to Distrowatch).  I thought it might come in handy for comparisons:

It crashes every single time I click on the font dialog. I have found out that it doesn't crash if I open the dialog before typing any character. I still find annoying to have the font dialog open all the time.

Any chance you'll release the wallpaper of the screenshot you posted in the October screenshots thread?

Well, it's not quite the same since that was an early mock-up I had done, but here's a similar version with one of the final logos:

Am I wrong if i say top 3 worst logos in that pic are mepis, arch and maybe absolute ? smile
(well slackware too but guess being an old distro, that old dated commodore64 look fits them)

You know what they say...beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

Personally, I think the best 5 are Solaris, Ubuntu, SUSE, Xandros, and Freespire.  There are more than a dozen logos in that collage that I wouldn't wish on my worst enemy... and most of them don't look professional enough to have in any workplace.  I'd say the Arch logo falls somewhere in the middle--not great, but certainly not as bad as say Puppy or Sidux.

Edit:

For the record, I like neither Ubuntu, SUSE, Xandros nor Freespire as a distro... I just think their logos are among the best.
