Re: Blender renders slightly faster with 2.6.23 kernel

Nice, a few seconds faster.

Sarcasm aside, to me, it doesn't really matter if I can tell the difference when the two are compared side-to-side, it matters if I can tell just by itself.

I know it doesn't seem like much, a 2.5% performance increase. But after rendering the same project 24 hours a day for two or three weeks, or two or three months, it's going to start looking like a much more significant number. Then, if you're running a render farm because it would take years to render your project on a single PC, then 2.5% is going to be looking like a huge number.

Sure, if you're rendering for long spans of time, it may be more significant.  However, if out of three months I only get two and a third days back thanks to the new kernel, it wouldn't matter to me because that time would be insignificant.  Also, if it took months to render, I wouldn't even be doing it on a single PC, rather a render farm as you said.  Then we'd go back to only saving a few minutes of time.
