EDIT: still isnt perfect... for example the left boxes in this forum (where the avatar and username is) have a light background and light text.... same problem for you? are there easy fixes for bugs like that?

This isn't a bug. You can change the text color by changing the link color in preferences but this will affect all links.
Or you can modify the css with stylish.

Xfce, tilda, rodent icons, Xfce-dusk UI theme, Smoothwall WM theme. I use my desktop as a /tmp. Using the small green mouse cursors from here.

It's getting there, still some work to do with fonts, icons, menus and the like. I've started work on porting this icon theme from KDE, but I'm no artist so I expect it to take a while.

Re: November 2007 Screenshots

Well, after a long while spent with Ratpoison (and all tiling WMs you can think of), I sadly come back to a Desktop Environment, due to the apps not behaving how they should outside the DE they've been designed for. Not much choice in the end, either Gnome or KDE, or Xfce. This time it was back to Gnome for me. At least I have to say I like this last release, I find it a bit lighter and cleaner. It's also lighter because I have ditched Firefox in favour of Epiphany, and its integration with the whole DE is quite good. Well, in the end you gotta bend to what others have in mind, if you can't code, like me, so I'm taking the Gnome way...

Re: November 2007 Screenshots

I got it from Customize.org, as far as I can remember, but I can't find it... On my machine it's named "After the rain", if you can't find it, I can also upload it... The only thing is that I have edited it, and I'm not sure I can redistribute it on public forums, since I never quite understood how licensing works on Customize.org...

There isn't much to it. I just took some of the plugins out. The shadow is only from xcompmgr.

Global {

    margin = 0
    widthtype = pixel
    width = 768

    tintcolor = #ffffff
    alpha = 38
    setdocktype = true
    setpartialstrut = true
    autohide = false
    heightWhenHidden = 2
}

Plugin {
    type = icons
    config {
        DefaultIcon = /usr/share/fbpanel/images/default.xpm
        application {
            icon = gnome-terminal
            ClassName = URxvt
        }
    }
}

Plugin {
    type = taskbar
    expand = true
    config {
        ShowIconified = true
        ShowMapped = true
        ShowAllDesks = false
        tooltips = true
        IconsOnly = false
        MaxTaskWidth = 150
    }
}

Plugin {
    type = tray
}

Plugin {
    type = tclock
    config {
        ClockFmt = %R
        TooltipFmt = %A %x
    }
}

Re: November 2007 Screenshots

I'm using Arch exclusively on my desktop computer at home for over a year now. I was constantly refining this setup to the point, that I no longer have ideas for improvement (but I'm sure I'll find some). My window manager of choice is Openbox. It's lightweight, unobtrusive and has all the configuration options I need: great key binding configurability, global and per application window behavior customization.

I use six desktops, each has a key bound to it on numpad for fast switching. Only one fixed application per dekstop, except for desktop "O", which stands for "other".

Clean desktop

Desktop 1: Swiftfox
1swiftfoxbd1.th.png

Desktop 2: Geany
2geanylq4.th.png

Desktop 3: Screen with rtorrnet and bash
3screenfx9.th.png

Desktop 4: Pidgin
4pidginlx5.th.png

Desktop 5: ncmpc
5ncmpcfa1.th.png

There's much more to it not covered here. I use lots of keybindings, per application window customizations and few shell scripts for automatisation. I really like this setup. :-)

Some usual info:
Openbox theme: Onyx
GTK theme: Raleigh
Icons: Tango

It's funny: I extracted the pattern by hand with Gimp, when I found it some time ago on somebody's screenshot on this very forum. :-) Here you go.

Re: November 2007 Screenshots

I don't know if anybody's interested, but I've just created a wallpaper out of dyzdyz's extracted pattern. It's inspired by a wallpaper called "A little motivation" found on Interfacelift. Made with the Gimp.
