Re: Archlinux Colour Scheme

Well finally, something I feel confident in commenting on for my very first post....

Blue is always a popular choice because it's fairly tame and nondescript, which is also why it's overdone.  Colour has to be appealing while not being loud.  That's why I like idea of greys, hunter greens and maybe splashes of red to break things up.

Re: Archlinux Colour Scheme

This is not really popular, obviously, but I like orange(gold)/grey/black themes. It is solid, warm but not too intense.

If everything else fails, read the manual.

Re: Archlinux Colour Scheme

@Mandor Something like OpenMoko?

I also like orange/black (though I'd still change the Mandor's "gold" to something like "beach sand" smile ), but still.. it's kind of _too_ easy. By easy I mean, something you'll get bored with in no time.
I hope y'all get the point.

EDIT:

What I'd like on my desktop one day would be something in the direction of..

white replaced by another shade of light than _just_ white
black replaced by the light's counter color (if that's how you say it in english? yellow vs. purple, green vs. red, blue vs. orange, and so on)
And there'd be a color palette, of course, and _no_other_color_ would be used, as in indexed images.
Here's a little something what I mean with red vs. green. (Warning!! File size almost 1Mb) A drawing called boneprone drawn by a friend of mine which won the Assembly '05 gfx drawn compo here in finland.

Re: Archlinux Colour Scheme

Hmm, as I would only see "the Arch colours" on the website anyway, I would stay with blue.

I really like how well al.org is themed, and couldn't imagine it to be brown, yellow, red or green.

(to purple: I really like the pidgin colous though)

Re: Archlinux Colour Scheme

question: sure we can have an 'official' color scheme. But why not pull an oink.me.uk (god bless its soul) and let the users choose what 'themes'/colors they want to see when they login to archlinux.org? I mean would it be that difficult to pull off? I'm pretty sure our forums have some of the most talented (and willing!) artists to make this happen.

Just a suggestion. Its always a good idea to be fluid and dynamic. And thats exactly what archlinux as a distribution allows its users to do, so after thinking about this, I find it kind of silly to have just "one way of doing things" (ie. one color scheme, or one logo, or whatever it may be -- though of course I understand the constistancy necessary for PR, but thats different then just us regulars -- shout out to my homies in #archlinux ;p -- who just want to do things our way and enjoy archlinux for getting out of our way).

Re: Archlinux Colour Scheme

Why not make available the whole set of toolkits so users can decide from ground zero when typing www.archlinux.org ? Like when bbs.archlinux.org pops up, we get to choose phpbb or vbulletin! Then we could configure, design and configure, design for 4 hours after which we finally see the site with our layouts, styles AND COLOUERS! smile

Wait that's something I discussed with a Gentzooer.

I need real, proper pen and paper for this.

No, for real I've kind of gotten over the blue scene atleast. Every default layout seems to be blue and they're even trying to sell a blue christmas nowadays? Actually I'm sort of getting sick of blue more minute by minute.. Oh and another thing I just can't stand is this new kind of cool "I was just playing with vector graphics and I found this cool gardiet tool, or whatever it was called, but it's cool anyway" sort of thinking. Dont get me wrong. please smile There are good looking logos and icons etc. done with basic vector stuff and they look nice and fancy, almost glamourish, but they're just not something I'd use. What they lack in my mind is "soul". I like it rugged and sort of raw like the Gant icons are. No clean colors, no clean lines, no glares, nothing fancy about them , but working like a train's toilet!

Hobla.. Kind of went off topic, those quarks' colors look good... buuut... no blue. Add something "dirty" from the orange/brown sector of the color palette next to thet green and I'll let you pass wink

Dirty? Orange/brown? There is already Ubuntu (and a lot of people seems to hate the default Ubuntu colours).

I'm a really big fan of greens, so that would be my choice if things were to change.

Oh,no,no,no..
I'll just be a bit clearer here in what I meant.
Some _dirty_ colors from somewhere between orange and brown (that's a clear explanation wink )
And some of those nice greens in quarks' palette

Ubuntu colors (#FF6309, #FFB515, #C90016) aren't dirty and they aren't from between orange and brown, not in my palette anyway wink

I actually was jocking, but then I saw Odeo.com, and now I'm a lot more confortable with it, I dunno if I'd like archlinux with that colours though.
