@Reasons: Your fonts look very nice :-), what are the settings you are using to get them to render like that?
Thanks.
First read the fonts wiki as that makes them render better on LCD's. I use full hinting in the XFCE settings and this is my ~/.fonts.conf
<?xml version="1.0"?>
<!DOCTYPE fontconfig SYSTEM "fonts.dtd">
<fontconfig>
<match target="font" >
<test compare="more" name="weight">
<const>medium</const>
</test>
<edit mode="assign" name="autohint">
<bool>false</bool>
</edit>
</match>
</fontconfig>

Colbert,
Did you set your Firefox background black? I ask because I tried that once and the main issue I had with it was website graphics that assumed that the background would be a certain color, like white. It made for some really ugle website viewing.

How did you adjust urxvt's transparency? I know how to make it transparent, but it is only slightly so. Possibly post your ~/.Xdefaults.

I thought you were using the alpha channel and not just taking the desktop. Dang.

Somebody else in this thread was using the alpha channel and I was inspired to try it as well, but nothing would happen for me. I guess X doesn't like the Intel driver or my X3000.

my first arch-forums post and first screenie

I tried using one of the screengrab scripts over in Desktops but it doesn't seem to be 100% working; I need to learn a lot more about configuring conky

Peets would you mind posting your pekwm config?

Here are some relevant excerpts. The rest is pretty much left to the default settings.
# in ~/.pekwm/config
Screen{
Placement {
Model = "CenteredOnParent Smart MouseNotUnder"
Smart {
Row = "True"
TopToBottom = "True"
LeftToRight = "True"
OffsetX = "3"
OffsetY = "2"
}
}
# in ~/.pekwm/keys
Global{
# Moving in frames
KeyPress = "Mod4 Tab" { Actions = "NextFrame EndRaise" }
KeyPress = "Mod4 Shift Tab" { Actions = "PrevFrame EndRaise" }
KeyPress = "Mod4 Ctrl Tab" { Actions = "NextFrameMRU EndRaise" }
KeyPress = "Mod4 Ctrl Shift Tab" { Actions = "PrevFrameMRU EndRaise" }
KeyPress = "Mod4 Left" { Actions = "FocusDirectional Left" }
KeyPress = "Mod4 Right" { Actions = "FocusDirectional Right" }
KeyPress = "Mod4 Up" { Actions = "FocusDirectional Up" }
KeyPress = "Mod4 Down" { Actions = "FocusDirectional Down" }
#vi style:
KeyPress = "Mod4 H" { Actions = "FocusDirectional Left" }
KeyPress = "Mod4 L" { Actions = "FocusDirectional Right" }
KeyPress = "Mod4 K" { Actions = "FocusDirectional Up" }
KeyPress = "Mod4 J" { Actions = "FocusDirectional Down" }
# in ~/.pekwm/mouse
Client {
ButtonRelease = "Mod4 1" { Actions = "Focus; Raise" }
Motion = "Mod4 1" { Threshold = "4"; Actions = "Focus; Raise; Move" }
Motion = "Mod4 3" { Actions = "Resize" }
As you can see, I have no actions mapped to the 'alt' or 'ctrl' keys; all window management actions are performed using the 'windows' key (Mod4).
The theme file is not really fit for posting. I deleted a whole bunch of sections that should be defined and say "Empty", so I get a lot of error messages printed to the vc, but it works. Basically it's just a 1px border around windows that changes shade slightly when the window is focused.

Thanks peets. Pekwm looks interesting.
